The Writer’s Workshop

Courage doesn’t always have to be standing on the battlefield, or going to the hospital for cancer treatments, or any other huge event. It can be smaller and simpler in our eyes, but monumental in the person.

My granddaughter has courage. She has excelled at leadership, honesty and integrity but four days ago she met a big challenge for a young woman who is loved deeply by her family and always “came home“. This week she is at college about five hours away and the whole family misses her spark, as she in turn had to take the steps alone with courage, missing us. We are very proud of all she is and all she will become.

Esther’s Writing Prompts

They say eyes are windows to the soul…how can that be true when clever cons are committed everyday against trusting people who think attention and a supposed friendly smile fool them? Even comparing windows that are alluring but false can have a disturbing effect on a child or grandmother. The truth of this is laid out in the frauds committed by so-called preachers, car salesmen, politicians and dictators. If you voted for Trump could you see through his dishonesty – a window into his soul might be so black it is blighted.

“No taxation without representation” is true today, even though it in 1215, it was an early step to prevent a king from taxing without consent. In the 1760s it became a slogan for American colonists against the British. Before this time, King Charles I used a “ship tax” on the coastal communities in times of war. Wages and income were not considered. Today I feel we have a king that cares not where taxes come from, he just wants money for his golden residence.

Little Joe Smith had his head in a book as usual, and suddenly something told him to look up! “Hey, dad, look at that! The red light is doing Morse code!”

“Don’t be silly, Joe, but that would be a great joke on someone…”

“It’s no joke, dad, it’s spelling out a warning! It’s saying, go home to your shelter, they’re coming!” At that point the light turned green and Joe’s dad never saw it coming.

“Another American family caught, sir.” They were never seen again.

dVerse Poets Poetics

I’d like you to start from wherever you are and write a poem “wandering from room to room like a man in a museum.” Notice your surroundings. Take a walk around. Be curious about what is happening. Perhaps write about ordinary things or things that you might not ordinarily notice. End your poem with an open-ended question as Garcia does, incorporating characteristics of some of the things you’ve observed earlier in your poem.
If you’re new, here is how to join us:
Write a poem in response to the prompt.
Enter your name and a link directly to the post containing your poem into Mr. Linky. Remember to check the box to accept use/privacy policy.
Read other poets’ work as they enter their links into Mr. Linky. Check back as more will be added.
Please link back to dVerse from your post.
Have a wonderful time!
