This week’s Story Starter teaser is: She was standing next to her car in the empty parking lot routing around in her purse for her keys when she thought she felt a sticky chubby hand on her thigh. She knew immediately that Jack had crawled out of his car seat again. He was a masterful Houdini when it came to confinement. She quickly grabbed his hand and once again secured him into the safety seat. “I gave you that lollipop because you promised to stay safe in your car seat. I guess it will be early nap time.” Jack grumbled and didn’t try to escape again.

1. When you go food shopping, do you go with a list or amble down the aisles putting things in your basket or cart that you fancy or think you need? Always a list

2. When the temperatures drop for the colder months, is there a specific date you put the heating on or do you flick the switch when you start to feel cold? I rarely put the heat on or A/C.

3. Keeping with the cold theme, do you prefer a hot water bottle or an electric blanket at night? Neither. I have a sheet, a lightweight blanket and a heavier blanket if needed.

4. How do you feel about log burners? Do you think they are messy or cosy?I used them once in a while when I had a fireplace. Now I have an electric fake fireplace that glows and has a heater if I choose to turn that part on.

As the moon illuminates the street, I can almost hear the moaning of the trees, bending their balance of dark bare limbs as if made of invisible elastic. The air is chilled with the petrichor of purple autumn leaves, dried and strewn about the sidewalk. I could go overboard with the strong pull of too near season’s scents, bringing memories of chilly walks of childhood when gusty cold winds froze ice frosted ponds and voiceless birds tightened their grip on snowy branches.
