“The Other Side”

Time to watch this again. The man responsible for the choreography in the film is Ashley Wallen, an Australian native who has been dancing since the age of twelve. He has toured Australia and the UK with Kylie Minogue, appeared in films like Moulin Rouge! and The Phantom of the Opera. Daniel ‘Cloud’ Campos who played the bartender in this scene also choreographed it.

THE DANCING BARTENDER

While Ashley was working on the choreography for the larger numbers, he had the help of Daniel ‘Cloud’ Campos for “The Other Side.” You’ll instantly recognize Daniel as the bartender in the meticulously crafted bar scene with Hugh and Zac.

“He came up with most of that number. And I remember watching in the studio, that was a tough one for Hugh and Zac. Everything was synced with the beat and the music. But they pulled it off, and it’s really good. You watch it, and you don’t realize how hard that really is.”

Not only is the sequence a feat of choreography, but also editing and sound mixing. There is an incredible attention to detail – with every glass, bottle, and even chair movement. The complexity of the number becomes more and more prevalent upon multiple viewings.

“And trying to make it natural from an acting point of view, with the beat and music is tough. But it’s brilliant.”

MLMM – Saturday Mix

“Don’t you have any sense? Those costumes have been down in the cellar for years! They’re probably moldy; in fact I think those are the scents we’re smelling now!”

“Well what’s your suggestion then? Going to a costume seller and spending mucho dollars and cents on a paper one? It won’t last a half hour when we go to that party, and then we’ll look like all the other losers who didn’t wear one.”

Joe put his hand on his brother’s shoulder, “okay, okay, let’s see if mom can clean them enough to wear.”

3TC – The Creak Speaks!

Pinterest

The closet door

Hiding who knows what

She heard the squeak

Not wanting to see more

But plied the hinge

With liberal oil

Thought “whatever lurks

I can foil!“

Her mind spoke, “are you mad?”

Then it jumped out, raggedy clad

It’s voice uttered, “glad you’re here

I’ve been stuck inside for years

A wonder I’ve not met my end

If not for rats I’d be death wend”

She stood aback, not really scared

And helped it, happy to be aired

“I’ll call an ambulance”, she murmured

But it ran away as her eyes averted

When her husband came, he fixed a lock

No more would creatures be in that box.

Sammiscribbles Weekend Writing Prompt

Never thought I’d have the collywobbles
I’m strong of mind but weak of heart
Should have realized from the start
Everyone can have those feelings
I didn’t expect it to send me reeling!
I saw her in a marketplace
In such an ordinary space
That’s why she stood out so much
And thought…I feel such need for her touch
Butterflies be damned
Tipped my hat, offered “Howdy ma’am”

Spider!

Aragog
Comes out of the fog
Hagrid’s friend
but most person’s end
I turn to jog
Trip over a log
Guess I’m dinner in Aragog’s den!

This afternoon-Friday- after I had pre-scheduled the above post, I read this very sad news: CNN) – Robbie Coltrane, the actor who brought to life the lovable gamekeeper Hagrid in the Harry Potter film franchise, died on Friday, according to his agent, Scott Henderson. He was 72.

You will be missed. I have watched RC since he played on the series “Cracker”.

Any place where I can see beauty like this causes me happiness. This photo of grasses should have been a “live” picture but was hastily taken driving by. If it was live you would see how these beautiful grasses were waving and dancing in the wind, a delight to see. Sights like this make my day—it doesn’t take much to make me happy😀

“Nobody’s Lonely Tonight”

Chris Stapleton

Postman delivered
A past due bill notice
The alarm clock rang two hours late
The garbage man left all the trash
On the sidewalk
And the hinges fell off of the gate
This morning at breakfast
I spilled all the coffee
When I opened the door on my knee

Oh, the last thing I needed
The first thing this morning
Was to have you walk out on me

Last night, you came home late
I knew you’d been drinking
By that old mellow look on your face
I thought, “It don’t matter
‘Cause it’s the holiday season”
And you fill such a big empty space
And I laid down beside you
And I wanted your lovin’
‘Cause your love makes my life complete

Oh, the last thing I needed
The first thing this morning
Was to have you walk out on me

So excuse me for lookin’
Like my world just ended
And excuse me for lookin’
Like I just lost my best friend
And excuse me for livin’
Being forgiven
Just go on if you wanna be free

The last thing I needed
The first thing this morning
Was to have you walk out on me
Oh, the last thing I needed
The first thing this morning
Was to have you walk out on me

First Lines Friday

“I take it as a given that no one really likes to see me in my official capacity, but doctor Chau seemed more annoyed than most. I showed up for the open heart surgery she was performing. “Tell me that’s not the person I think it is”, Chau said to Shiela Reeves. Reeves, the hospital administrator, had accompanied me into the scrub room. Chau was scrubbing up and after her initial glance refused to look at me, as well as several other members, scrubbing up for the operation.”

The Dispatcher is a 2016 science fiction novella by John Scalzi. It was originally published as an audiobook from Audible, read by Zachary Quinto.

From Goodreads: “…Tony Valdez is a Dispatcher – a licensed, bonded professional whose job is to humanely dispatch those whose circumstances put them in death’s crosshairs, so they can have a second chance to avoid the reaper.”

I found mixed reviews but I really enjoyed this book. One review said it had no humor but I strongly disagree. I listened to it on the audible app and liked the narrator. I also liked the sequel. It has an old radio-noir-mystery feeling to it.
