I am a widow since 2013 and live by myself in a small apartment. I use a wheelchair to get around, but I wouldn't consider myself disabled. I'm 11 years away from having bladder cancer resulting in a urostomy and I'm doing well. This cancer was a result of having radiation in 1995 because of uterine cancer. So have faith in yourself, a cancer diagnosis is not a death sentence. My first try at blogging was an attempt to help other people with my condition. I am a mother of three married children, and a grandmother to eight gorgeous kids, featuring them often here, and a great grandmother to two as of today, 6/7/25! I enjoy exploring my feelings and like to try the challenges. I like humor, music, movies, games, and some sports. I absolutely appreciate your reading and commenting on my blog. I am happy to read all of your blogs and learn more about you. Please comment however you like, ask whatever, and I'll answer honestly. Thanks for reading! Cheryl

Song Lyric Sunday
Buying a musical instrument is not for everyone. Children think it may look cool to play the saxophone and don’t have the stamina to play it. This happened to my son since he was a small guy. He then tried the violin and did well until some pieces of music found his little finger too crooked to reach certain places. He ended up playing guitar and still does, and excellent at it. Here’s a photo of my granddaughter who did conquer the saxophone:

This is excellent because I have the opportunity to show my admiration for a friend. Always encouraging, funny, intelligent, talented, with similar world views, and a great support in all my endeavors. We are about the same age, have conquered trials and she, especially is so thoughtful with a constant connection even though we live far apart. I have a wonderful family and making new friends where I live now, but C is always there for me.

“I do show interest”, he complained loudly. “It’s just you and your hobby interfere with mine!” Joe flopped down on the couch, tired of defending his hobby and certainly not enjoying hers. June came over and asked him to stand up so she could check the measurements for the new blouse she designed. Joe was watching the soccer tournament and June stood in his way.
June stated “It’s like working with a bouncing ball!”

The Sunday Whirl
Joe wondered if the town’s curse still existed or was it lost as hoped. It had been true enough years ago when he heard the screams of the mothers, the sighs of the fathers, and police sirens. It seemed even the smallest children could slip through the doors beneath the iron bridge where terrible things happened. As usual, newspapers centered on the parent’s behavior, knocking down any family that might be involved. Joe sat quietly in the old diner, watching children play near the tracks, saddened to think most things don’t change.

I never think about my age, hard to believe that I suppose, but true. It’s only when I’m sitting in the hospital that I realize, “yeah, you’re old! What do you expect?” Even seeing new great grandchildren popping up, I still think of their parents when younger. As a privileged grandmother I can look at these generations and think in a very small way I am responsible for their happiness and success. I can be proud and remember that yes, I am that old, but so what?😉

The Friday Reminder and Prompt for #SoCS May 23, 2026
Update
On May 1, I was taken to the hospital. I was so weak I thought maybe I was having a stroke. Luckily I was not but my kidneys were failing and I was in very bad shape. It’s amazing how quickly you can turn dehydrated and in dire condition in a couple of days. Naturally all the hullabaloo in the ER and ICU worried my daughter and my family. This is the third time for such a scary episode. I feel so sorry about that. Today I am home and now on oxygen 24/7 which I dislike, but it is necessary for the short term.
I am writing this to warn you about watching your hydration even if you have no chronic disease. Take care of yourselves because this can come on quickly.
I did no writing and this is my first contact with my blogging friends. Send me your challenges as I will try to get back into the writing groove. Thanks for reading.
