He changed his mind
Not yet the time
He’d try again
Save this for the end
Deciding his fate
A wave too late
Returned to the beach
Back into the breach.

This is a story of a man who was trying to swim out and drown himself. These days some times it’s hard to face the reality of life. He’s going to try.
Or:
Chilly waters
Waves too strong
Joe tried his best to go along
Everyone else had swimming skills
Joe did not, envied Bill
The girls all thought he was all right
But Joe just could not shake his fright
Then Joe spotted a shark, turns out Joe was wise.

Monday Poetry Prompt: Beach
Reminds me of an old Tom Waits lyric, “The ocean doesn’t want me today / but I’ll be back tomorrow” or something like that.
I appreciate your realistic take on the beach.

Here’s an (unusually) more optimistic response from me ….
Some days the ocean
won’t behave
Stop waiting for
the perfect wave
The universe is
not your slave
A life you live
is one you save
Discard the board
and dive below
A world down there
you do not know
A world above
that will not show
Unless you look.
Unless you grow
So swim my darling,
If you dare
Feel the water.
Breathe the air
This is what
it means to care
Feel the love.
It’s everywhere

Our beach is 600 yards away and we get a lot of ‘beached whales’ under the guise of tourists……….. it can be a horrible sight with more rolls than McDonalds hanging over belts and muffin tops.
