OLWG 388

This week’s prompts are:
tea coloured eyes
change the words of this poem
New Mexico schmerz

***

I was minding my own business sitting, waiting for my food order at what can only be described as a New Mexico schmerz, when in walked an angry guy. He had tousled black hair, tea colored eyes, and a big mouth. He sat down next to a young woman who was busily scribbling something on a napkin. Suddenly he grabbed it, read what she had written and was really mad about it. “You’ll change the words of this poem if you know what’s good for ya!” She looked cowed and got up and walked out of the restaurant. He shredded the napkin and threw it on her plate. Then he left also and they parted ways outside. I’ll never know what caused him to be upset, but my curiosity is killing me!

The Unicorn Challenge

In the darkness
a single light
never meant to lessen fright
who knows what’s lurking there
behind the stone wall standing there
the scary season is upon us
monsters loose will cause a fuss
must be careful friends
you never know what might descend.

PROMPT WORD:  WEB

***

I was saying goodbye last evening to my family, on my patio, when my daughter suddenly looked up and said, oh that’s a beautiful web. What—over my head, over my door, a web? I am demented when it comes to spiders and webs and panicked, while they shown a light on this supposedly beautiful web. At the same time my next-door neighbor and a man came up near my patio and I said, “are you afraid of spiders, can you help me with this web? Unbelievably this man, a complete stranger, was a spider expert, and he explained that the web had been abandoned, and then went on to tell me what kind of spider it was that made that web. This is a true but definitely spooky spider story.

Killing Time

I am small, tiny actually, but very upset. It is too long in between my times to shine. The old guy always gets the photo ops, the fans, songs sung about him, champagne toasts, stories galore, and what about me? I am ignored! So it’s definitely time to end him. I’m planning this for Halloween, October 31st, so my crime will be covered up by celebrations of horror, and if a teeny weeny accident should occur resulting in the old man’s demise? Well, uh, pardon me, I have to wipe the smile off my face and get serious. I’ll only be able to celebrate the end of December, when all eyes will finally be on me, only me!

No Theme Thursday –

Being shy, Mary decided to order the large chocolate ice cream soda to hide behind. All week she had followed Joe and now to the cafe, but didn’t want him to see her. Mary liked to study Joe. She took a few sips of the soda and started sketching. He was such a handsome guy, she took her time to get the details just right. When done she asked the waitress to give Joe the drawing after she left. Mary didn’t consider herself a stalker, she just enjoyed following handsome men. Joe was the twentieth sketch she made and gave to her subject. Mary considered it a compliment to them. She hurried back to the hospital, not wanting to miss the day pass designated check-in
time.

SoCS 10-19-24

I need to have the knack

Never to talk back

To a chef of good repute

Dare I start to refute

His knavish choice of knapweed soup

With kneaded knawls in the bread

Added knackwurst which I dread

He hunts this fare, he’s a tracker

I think this proves the chef a knacker

Looks for cheaper meals, though knarry

Hoping restaurant costs don’t vary

Menus now all have this food

To complain would be rude.

Sammiscribbles Weekend Writing Prompt

You try, you worry, have sleepless nights
Wanting to teach your children right
Parents fret over everything
Hoping to raise their little beings
With values and respect, compassion and more
Loving each other with parents (you) to adore
You only have them a few years
To fit in all your lessons and steer
Them to lead their happiest life
Free of trouble and strife
The time comes for another to teach
An adult stranger with powerful reach
Your child leaves you with trepidation
For a separate from you education
You take it with faith.

13 Days of Samhain (volume v) – A Horror / Halloween Writing Prompt Challenge

 by sammicoxwriter

For the fifth year (oh my, can you believe it?!), I’m hosting 13 Days of Samhain, a Horror / Halloween writing prompt challenge. I’ve enjoyed it these past four years and I hope those who have joined in with it have too! (For those interested, you can find the previous years’ prompts here and here and here and here).

So, without further ado, here are the 13 prompts for 2024, with the first prompt beginning tomorrow, 20th October, and the last prompt, Day 13, falling on November 1st:

If you do decide to join in, I hope you have lots and lots of fun.  Write whatever you wish, as long as it is inspired by that day’s prompt.  Here’s a little graphic / badge for anyone who wants:

Am I joining in this year? I’m not sure yet, in all honesty. For the past three years, I’ve written a new Damon the Demon story, and I really, really, really want to write another. However, at the moment, I know I just don’t have the time. But we will see…Perhaps I will manage it…somehow…

13 Days of Samhain (volume v) – A Horror / Halloween Writing Prompt Challenge

Fandango’s Flashback Friday

It happened at midnight

The frightening sight

And it took all my might

To try not to look at the devilish delight.

It wasn’t just the horrid blight

Of the dark in the middle of the night

I was mesmerized by the site

On my computer screen all alight

The colors were way too bright

They were amazing even in spite

Of the laptop’s age–twenty years, quite

The devil appeared in all his right

Through the wild colors, there was no slight

In spectacle as I looked with fright

It was like I was cast in a spell of benight

But that wasn’t the worst this night

Before, I thought my room was airtight

But was suddenly surrounded by aplite

Unable to move myself from my plight

I couldn’t escape the devil’s might

And succumbed to his evil bedights

I never woke up from this, despite

All my efforts, I went down in the fight.
