Halloween 1950s Vermont

Sneaking out the sleds in the night, armed with chalk for windows of well lit homes that didn’t answer the door, and a pillowcase, off we went.  Sledding on the dirt roads was forbidden, but it was Halloween and we took our chances.  It was always snowing or had been, so the roads were pretty smooth.  The preferred mode of transportation because homes were far apart in the country:

The worst thing I remember doing was tying knots in laundry hanging on the line outside a non responsive home.  Why anyone left laundry hanging on Halloween is a mystery, I’m sure it never happened again.  We were quite brave in the dark πŸ™„πŸ˜³πŸ˜±
