dVerse Poets – Revolution

When I read this prompt I thought to myself, no way, I can’t start, because if I do, I won’t be able to stop. Then of course, the news.

**

Raise or burn your flags

Paint a sign of dissent or cower

No one wants to see, but all are looking

No one really wants to know but can’t stop reading

And lives lost or bartered for ransom?

Sing your songs or listen in closets

Brandish your weapons, scream your insults, defy medical advice, don’t worry about your children, what they see and hear, quell their fear with words of hate.

Is this a revolution? Where is sanity? Even if we forget about the whole “love your neighbor” idea, what can violent actions accomplish?

While our lying conspirator sits in the most important house in our land, housed and fed by us, safe and sound, spits on our forefathers’ ideals, spewing hostile slurs and condoning lawlessness, with nazi-like retaliation?

Damn right we need a revolution, but not against each other. We need to join together to hold that conspirator accountable.

Many colors here

Flavors different too

Which one am I and

Which one is you?

This small space

Contains us all, a beautiful treat

Pretty to see, but together, much more sweet

Our different tastes so well combined

No need for separation, we still are well defined.

FOWC: Boorish

Funny coincidence the word boorish because as I was reading the news reports of Trump planning to send “federal troops” to cities to “handle” situations, bully pulpit came to mind. In my thinking it is a way to incite more violence, but I looked up the term “bully pulpit” which is being morphed by Trump. I grew up thinking both Presidents Roosevelt were admirable. Trump has taken an historical phrase and twisted its meaning, and demonized it. His actions in the past and present have proved **he is a bully and racist. As usual, just my opinion.

Dire Straits

These mist covered mountains
Are a home now for me
But my home is the lowlands
And always will be
Someday you’ll return to
Your valleys and your farms
And you’ll no longer burn to be
Brothers in arms
Through these fields of destruction
Baptisms of fire
I’ve witnessed your suffering
As the battle raged high
And though they did hurt me so bad
In the fear and alarm
You did not desert me
My brothers in arms
There’s so many different worlds
So many different suns
And we have just one world
But we live in different one
Now the sun’s gone to hell and
The moon’s riding high
Let me bid you farewell
Every man has to die
But it’s written in the starlight
And every line in your palm
We’re fools to make war
On our brothers in arms

FFFC#75

After the re-election of Trump in 2020, everyone except his pie eyed followers knew this would happen. Now in 2030, survivors look forward to the return of a few green trees, but the soil is hot and too dry for planting anything edible. This is a view from my office at the biodome where we gathered late 2015. As scientists and historians we prepared as well as we could. Eventually even this dome will disintegrate. We watched with sorrow as the environment and disease killed huge populations. Even as our fearless leader watched the crumble, he denied it.

Fear and Loathing in Small Town America

***

The local landlady raised an eyebrow as she baltered along the crosswalk in the Village Square.

Heaven forbid she should rub up against an occupant from the other boarding house. She made this daily trip trying to discover any whelved ne’er-do-wells in her neighborhood.

Her fear was sometimes quelled by lighting a candle at her journey’s destination, the small cottage church. Upon her visit the sometimes heard sound of a lone singer in the choir was reassuring. She seemed to forget this bit of blessing as she continued her journey back home, giving the evil eye to any person on the street she deemed suspicious.
