I’m a secret gift from Adam
I’m shiny red
The apple said
Intended as Adam’s stratum

Petals dipping slightly from the weight of rain drops
Mother nature’s gift to the youngsters, bravely budding out on semi sturdy stems
Spring rains the nourishment required for vulnerable juveniles in the garden
Soil is dark and drenched, but holds the branching roots stable

Five o’clock was today’s get up time, too early, still dark, cold!
My plans for today are to monitor my daughter who is in surgery for her gallbladder. Just found out all went well.
Are you kidding? 2026 has started and will probably remain in history as the most blatant demented American state.
I will probably make tuna salad for my meal today:
White albacore tuna packed in water, drained and doused with fresh lemon juice
Chopped celery, onion, sweet relish, mayo, mustard
And today would be my mother’s birthday, born in 1906.
Gratitude is my daughter’s successful surgery.

Pride in my country
Let me think
Umm, at the moment?
The country’s government leadership? NO! This is a farce, a betrayal, a crime against us as American citizens.
The citizens who protest peacefully, stand by their neighbors in freezing temperatures, protecting families, oh my god, yes!

I have no wings to lift him from this chaos
As I stretch my arms with a cringe
I breathe in pieces of hardship
A scene between dreaming and the real world
Peeking through cracks of a closet door
Shuttered by fear beneath the stairs
His mind starts to spin, split between similarities
Of a video game and what he sees through the cranny
He hesitates to open the door further
Hiding from the reality, realizing now, it’s no game.

How’s your mood, you under the hood
Your mask is slipping, reputation flipping
How long do you think
You can stand on this brink
Violence gripping

Weekend Writing Prompt #454 – Mood

I don’t think I like this chapter
The pages I try to read
The words come too fast
Stop this turning, I plead
But they keep rolling
The story’s on repeat
I try to stop it, digging in my feet
It has my jacket
Pulling at the seams
The book is out of control
Tearing at the dreams
Women, men and children
Falling left and right
Put it back on the shelf
Even in a novel, a terrible sight
I close the ugly tome
I need a fairytale
To remind myself
There is a dream, even a fantasy
That will come true in the end
Until the chapters are rewritten
No reading time I’ll spend.
