History/Remembering MLK

PUEBLO, Colo. — If you’re passing through Pueblo you can check out, or rather check-in, to a piece of history. The Coronado Motel is now in the National Register of Historic Places.

The Coronado Motel, built in the 1940s, earned recognition for its historical role during the Jim Crow Era.
Originally called The Coronado Lodge, the motel was listed in the Negro Traveler’s Green Book. The book was a guide for lodging, businesses, drug stores and even homes open to people of color during the segregation era.
“The Green Book was the guide that a lot of African Americans used to find out where they could safely stay and eat and visit as they traveled across the country,” said Koehler.

“In Colorado especially you would just see houses listed and they would have rooms available for blacks to stay in. There were not really motels or lodges listed,” said Koehler.

JJJ#18 – Calling a Callipygian a Callipygian

“I know Joe, you think I look great already, have an hourglass figure and shouldn’t worry about my bum, but frankly I feel like I’m losing it!”
“Losing what? You look as gorgeous as the day we met!”
“Losing firmness, so I’ve decided to cycle to work everyday to tighten my callipygian area.”
“Calliope—What? Honey you look so sassy in those jeans tonight! Whatever you’re wanting to tighten, can I help?”

I just watched a good show on STARZ network titled “Long Weekend”. It’s a quiet little movie with an interesting concept.

JJJ#17

I never have to look far for joy in my life. A snap, a text, email or a phone call and better yet a visit from my family is all it takes. As a matter of fact not even that, as this morning I looked around my new apartment and thought I am living the good life. I am so grateful, which is a different type of joy.

The Sunday Whirl

It seemed as if the huge rock was shaking it’s fist as it loomed out from the cloud bay. Possibly it was a further warning that we had trespassed. Voiceless speak we heard, “no room here for your careless lives. The circle of noisy ravens spoke a story you already ignored. This is the mighty west, you will not blend in. You may slide on our snowy slopes with those scrawny pieces of wood, but we mountains are not impressed. We have been here forever and any machinations to destroy us will not prevail.”

JJJ#16 Saturday Night Saga

This will be a long but true tale: Last night I was happily sitting in my recliner watching the latest Queer Eye episode on Netflix when something scuddled across my living room. A mouse. Now mice may be cute in stories and movies but in my own brand new apartment? No thank you.
It kind of stopped in the middle, turned around, looked at me and then proceeded to take a tour of the whole apartment. It gave me a chill! I called the Management and she just laughed. Apparently that is the usual reaction but I was not amused. She said, “well this was an open construction for a long time so there’s bound to be a few visitors in here.” Huh?
I asked her what they planned on doing to solve the problem and after chuckling a few times more she said, “well we might get an exterminator in on Monday or Tuesday”. OK. Meanwhile I’m sitting there frozen on my recliner picturing him in my bedroom, maybe on top of my bed and how was I going to get rid of him.
Subsequent call to my main guy/ helper/ grandson resulted in him laughing continuously and reminding me of how they can crawl anywhere, get anywhere, and when he wouldn’t stop laughing I finally said, “OK forget it, I’m hanging up now” and did. Boys!
Long story even longer concluded with the creature skedaddling underneath the door that goes to the hallway in the apartment complex. I quickly got anything I could find to barricade that door and went to bed. This morning life returned to normal—as if there is such a thing as normal anymore.
Is it ridiculous not wanting to remove the barricade?😳🙄😂🥴

MLMM Saturday Mix
This week we are dipping our toes into the pool of OPPOSITES. Our challenge is all about “opposing forces” and the use of antithesis in our writing. You will need to use the two opposing words in your response – which can be poetry or prose.
Our words this week are:
– spend and save
– senior and junior
***
Senior and Junior live together in rooms
Senior is contrary
But Junior is wary that
Senior’s extravagant taste looms.
Junior keeps a budget to save
While Senior’s spending staves
And the bank causes Junior brain fumes.

Foremost, I need you to know this fact. I have never had sexual relations with…oh sorry, that was some other guy. I freely admit I have stalked a few ladies in my designer days but not to romance them, only to glean as much knowledge as I could from their incredible talents. Sadly this only led to a copyright disaster and now I am back at my initial job of cutting patterns.
