Reflection

The Old Farmer’s Almanac:

“Memorial Day commemorates the men and women who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces, particularly those who died in battle or as a result of wounds sustained in battle. In other words, the purpose of Memorial Day is to memorialize the veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.”

“Memorial Day was originally known as Decoration Day, starting with the American Civil War. It’s believed that the tradition of honoring the dead was inspired by the way Southern states decorated the graves of both Confederate and Union soldiers with flowers, wreaths, and flags.”

IAVA organization requests to take a time of silence at 3:00 pm local time. Remember the fallen.

Tuesday Writing Prompt Challenge

They stand around in horror, watching the grief for the victims spread. The heavily armed and the tshirted parents, all mulling around in awe that such a thing could happen in their neighborhood. Guilty officials hold press conferences on their way to a campaign rally, taking the time to offer prayers and thoughts to the stricken. Self righteous bigots back them up, no one is taking responsibility, it’s just another sad day among many, and they are going to be late for their golf game. The grieving families hope it will happen never again, but they know it will.

Go Dog Go Cafe – Haibun

Let’s go with a prompt word of WAITING this week. Go where the prompt leads.

Sadness prevails as the headlines once again reveal another child shooting and killing other children. This has gone on long enough while self righteous officials line up behind politicians who offer no solutions.

Cyranny’s 1MinFic

LOCAL HEADLINES: “Teen has second car accident in three days”
“Not again!” Joe’s mother slowly drove up to the accident scene. Three days—just three days ago, Joe had gotten his driver’s license. Three days! “Well that does it, from now on he’s paying his own car insurance!”

“Don’t let the old man in”

This song is playing at the end of Clint Eastwood’s movie, “The Mule”.

“So, Keith asked the filmmaker what keeps him going . He said, “I just get up every day and don’t let the old man in,” Keith remembers. “And instantly, I wanted to write a song about that. So, I came home, wrote it, sent it to him, and now it’s in the movie.”

Don’t let the old man in
I wanna leave this alone
Can’t leave it up to him
He’s knocking on my door

And I knew all of my life
That someday it would end
Get up and go outside
Don’t let the old man in

Many moons I have lived
My body’s weathered and worn
Ask yourself how would you be
If you didn’t know the day you were born

Try to love on your wife
And stay close to your friends
Toast each sundown with wine
Don’t let the old man in

Many moons I have lived
My body’s weathered and worn
Ask yourself how would you be
If you didn’t know the day you were born

When he rides up on his horse
And you feel that cold bitter wind
Look out your window and smile
Don’t let the old man in

Look out your window and smile
Don’t let the old man in
