Cyranny’s 1MinFic

“Now what, Joe? Can’t you see I wore a dress? A fancy one at that?” “I was trying to be…spontaneous…remember how you loved that movie with the couple riding a scooter in Italy and commented how romantic it was?” “Okay, now how do I get on this thing?” Joe let out a sigh of relief and smiled.

Thursday Doors!

I finally have a door to show—one of my granddaughter’s photos when visiting New York City, NY last week.

“One of the greatest bookstores on the face of the Earth. Every single person who works there is incredibly knowledgeable and well read and full of soul. You can walk in and ask anybody, really, what they’ve read lately and they’ll tell you something – very likely something you’ve never heard of. [But] it’s always going to be something interesting and fabulous. I go there when I’m feeling depressed and discouraged, and I always feel rejuvenated.”
Michael Cunningham,
winner of the 1999
Pulitzer Prize for Fiction

A moment of clarity happens when you are suddenly stopped short by something, such as a diagnosis of disease.

first incredulous

mind wanders around too much

about family

thinking worst scenarios

then a faith starts to kick in

Word Craft Poetry

A lanterne is a cinquain form of poetry, in which the first line has one syllable and each subsequent line increases in length by one syllable, except for the final line that concludes the poem with one syllable (1-2-3-4-1). Its name derives from the lantern shape that appears when the poem is aligned to the center of the page.

Tuesday Writing Prompt Challenge

The prompts are designed to be quick challenges that can be written in 10 to 15minutes, inspire you creatively, are fun, and get everyone interacting. Please post your response to the prompt in the comments below and show your fellow posters some love and support. All members of the Go Dog Go community, including Baristas, are welcome to participate. Feel free to share this post on your own blogs and/or Facebook. Todays prompt: Write a poem using the words thunderstorm, purple, and closed doors

Joe ran to close the windows and after there were all closed doors too, he plopped down in his overstuffed chair. A thunderstorm with lightning flashes among the purple clouds was an event he never wanted to miss. He had already positioned the comfy chair in front of the picture window in the library, along with a small table where the tea cozy and cup were patiently awaiting his attention. “Bring it on, Zeus!”

Simply Six Minutes

  1. Set up a timer or sit near a clock so you can keep track of the six minutes you will be writing.
  2. You can either use one of the prompts (photo or written) or you can free-write.
Mother Nature offers up a compromise of sorts:
Here I give you every ordinary palm tree that exists on my earth, and every seed that might make a new one. I will even include the coconut palms as further declaration of my efforts. This will be a sacrifice I am willing to make to ensure we will come together in an agreement. I offer this concession not in jest but certainly in sorrow—the palm is a symbol of goodness. Please acknowledge this treaty with your commitment to stop the ruin and waste I see on my earth. The earth is here as an incredible gift to sustain all life, even sadly, the palm trees. But if it takes a forfeiture from me, so be it. I offer them to you, people of this world, for peace and hope for a brighter future.

Fandangos Story Starter

This week’s Story Starter teaser is: As our eyes met across the busy café tables, I was struck with the feeling that…

started at my chest and rose to a bright red on my forehead. Anger of the worst kind…revenge…was exploding in my thoughts. That little weasel, thinking he can come here! He knows I come here every morning and he has the audacity to do the same?

I rose up quickly, knocking my chair to the floor, and purposely strode over to the poor excuse for a man and slapped him, hard. “Take that, you coward!”

The NYC crowd was the usual group who never flinched at much that happened anymore, and went back to their conversations. Joe was not even embarrassed, remembering how he called her a slut after their night together. He had made it a daily water cooler exchange at the office.

dVerse Poets Quadrille

Today’s Quadrille prompt word—as I’m certain you’ve guessed–is celebrate. Use the word, or some form of the word, such as celebrated, celebration, etc. in your poem today. If you’re new to dVerse or the quadrille, it’s simply a poem of 44 words, excluding the title. It can be in any form, rhymed or unrhymed, metered, or unmetered. You MUST use the word “celebrate” or some form of the word in your poem. Are you ready to celebrate? You probably know a quadrille is type of dance popular in the 18th century, a precursor of present-day square dances. So put on your thinking cap and dancing shoes–and celebrate with other dVerse poets.

Ignore the news
the vicious, biased views
the hate speech insults,
dedicate your day to peace
let hope and love increase,
upset the status quo
and let only friendship be what you sow
all can do this so easily
celebrate with you and me
