“Far be it for me…(words usually followed by unsolicited advice from an old person when they really want to say:do as I say)…to contradict your opinion or rekindle old wounds…certainly not, but do you really think purple is the right choice?”
“Mom, when I made the decision of withdrawal from my first marriage, I vowed the days of a false pure white wedding gown was not for me. The white dress is only a metaphor.
“Well I just don’t want you sending the wrong message!”
“And what message is that? That I’m in love and passionate about being married to someone who feels the same?”
Think about your first haircut. We’re you the kid that cut your own hair? Did you go to a salon or did your parents cut your hair? Did your parents save a lock of your hair?
How about shaving? Fathers often teach their sons to shave. Most girls I know, decided for themselves when to shave their legs and their underarms. Some cultures do not shave at all.
Did you alter your clothes? Cut jeans into cut-offs? Cut the sleeves off t-shirts? Wear graphic tees? Tie-dyes? Sew patches on your jeans?
Was there a time you remember challenging the authority in your household. Do you remember the first time you found your voice?
What about piercings? Girls getting their ears pierced was a rite of passage for girls. Then boys started getting one ear pierced. As time passed, piercings became more mainstream and accepted.
Did you walk on the wild side? Smoking? Drinking? Did your parents know?
What about tattoos? Did you get a tattoo while still living at home? Did your parents approve?
What about language? Was swearing allowed in your family? Did you use the same language around your friends as you did at home with your family?
Think back to high school. Girls, did you iron your hair? Did you color your hair? (using Sun-in counts!) Guys, did you grow a beard or moustache? Did you grow your hair long? Feel free to share a photo of yourself back in the day.
Many people think our authentic self is the person we were as young children. Are you still inherently the same person you were as a child or have you changed your personality and demeanor along the way?

My mom cut our hair and mine was usually braided by her. My first short haircut was at 16, and stayed short until the 70s. It’s been long and short since cut by me.
I was shown by a friend how to shave which saved me much embarrassment at a swim party at a pond with friends. My mom made our clothes which became a gossip subject apparently, when I attended high school.
I only “talked back” to my mom once as I was standing behind her while she was washing dishes in the sink. There was a reflective window in front of her and when denied permission to do something I don’t remember, I stuck out my tongue. She saw it in the window and whirled around with a wet dishrag upside my face. I never did it again.
I had my ears pierced on my 30th birthday, a gift to myself and no other piercings or tattoos. Most of my grandkids have tattoos. I started smoking a bit when my roommate from France was doing it. We lived in a horrid tiny apartment in a tenement building and it was a brief encounter but I enjoyed it as we had no other “entertainment”. When my dad who smoked three packs of Lucky Strikes a day and died of emphysema at 82, picked me up one time, he just looked at me and said he never wanted to catch me smoking again. I don’t think my mom ever knew.
No tattoos, no cursing by any of us girls. My dad used all the NE swearing expressions but I only heard my mom say shit one time😂.
I’m a much better suited to myself person now than I was in high school. I feel liberated to do and say what I want, especially now that I live alone. I talk openly with my family and grandkids about anything. I sometimes wish my parents were not so strict and not impeded my youth.
Mike had been practicing parkour for a while but when he landed on the top of this structure, his heart took a leap as he contemplated how to safely get over the glass panels. Could he make it across to his balcony? Possibly try to bounce off his car roof? He backed up hoping he’d make it.
“Section 3 of the Fourteenth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution that Hannity claims to understand, prohibits anyone who has previously taken an oath of office (Senators, Representatives, and other public officials) from holding public office if they have “engaged in insurrection or rebellion” against the United States. “
Indeed, whether or not our former president is jailed, it is obvious to anyone that Trump participated in the insurrection on January 6, and should never be allowed to hold any political office again.
Unfortunately in my state of WY, the results of this week’s primaries continued to support this backward dangerous group of politicians, some who actually attended the insurrection on Jan 6. Republican Liz Cheney, who has been taking action against Trump was sadly defeated, and a new horror backed by Trump is taking her place. Sad and frustrating news.
We have amazing sunsets here in Wyoming and sometimes the entire sky is colorful like last night. Here are some badly taken pictures of a beautiful gift to see:

Todays prompt: Write a poem using the words “In the beginning”

First Kiss
In the beginning it was awkward, stepping close, bumping foreheads, touching cheeks…hesitation then, unsure if it could be achieved at all. Back stepping and then forward again, reaching arms closed around waists; smile with upturned eyes returned by shy downward glance and then trying again. Tipping heads, coming together slowly, anticipation teeming and then it happened. A short soft touch and then a longer press of lips together.
AFTER THE SHOCK OF SEEING THE AMOUNT OF HIS LATEST ELECTRICITY INVOICE WORE OFF, TED DECIDED THAT, IN ORDER TO SAVE ENERGY GOING FORWARD, HE WOULD…
chastise everyone in his household. He started removing every high wattage bulb and turned down the water heater temperature and put a three minute timer on it. He then disabled all the unnecessary appliances used all over the home. After that he sat everyone down with a lecture on conserving electricity.
As everyone left the room grumbling, Ted sat down in his recliner, adjusted the electric window shades, turned on the lamp beside him, checked that his beer cooler beside him was plugged in, tuned the tv channel to show the stock market ticker tape and plugged in his laptop and phone to charge. He felt satisfied, in control—this was going to work.
His kids came back in the room and just stared at him…Ted said, “What?!”
Set up a timer or sit near a clock so you can keep track of the six minutes you will be writing. You can either use one of the prompts (photo or written) or you can free-write. Get ready and write for 6 minutes, that is it! Can you write a complete story? Can you think of a new Sonnet? Can you write 400 words? 400? 500? There are no restrictions on what kind of writing you do, but you should try to be actively writing for six minutes. After you are done writing, include your word count and then post back to this page #Simply6Minutes or include your link in the comments section. Pingbacks are enabled. ***
It was one of those absolutely perfect summer days. The sun was out and bright, a few clouds on the horizon promising a quick drench of rain in the afternoon and everyone was standing at Mother Nature’s attention.
At least that’s how it started, but as in every situation of formality, there’s always one comic, one clown or one dissenter willing to “spoil” the wanted decorum.
Today it was Joe, yes, see the one looking back at the camera? Mother Nature called him a trouble maker one too many times and of course he had to live up to his reputation. That’s what he thought and why he did what he did.
However the photographer had received a warning from MN and had a plan. Joe had been purposely put in the very back. On the second take the photographer cropped out Joe’s defiance.
