For the 2022 November PAD Chapbook Challenge, poets are tasked with writing a poem a day in the month of November before assembling a chapbook manuscript in the month of December. Day 2 asks poets to get a little sweet.
This week’s Story Starter teaser is: ALLISON STARTED LAUGHING HYSTERICALLY WHEN SHE FOUND OUT THAT…Joe had fallen for the old “It’s chocolate” when it was actually a disguised laxative. Allison’s revenge was sweet but even though Joe was at school, he was “mysteriously” missing his classes most of the day.
The placement of the reflection pool was an odd choice. Hardly anyone visiting loved ones’ gravesites went near it. It was rumored that one day a small girl suddenly died there. She was found face down just at the water’s edge, seemingly able to free herself, but didn’t. The people who had previously bought grave sites near it wanted to have it drained and a garden planted instead. The mysterious owner of the cemetery declined.
My face turns crimson as I look forebodingly down the prison hallway. My idea for the bank robbery did not end up the achievement I desired. The night guard on duty was supposed to be taking his usual midnight nap, but of course his plans changed. Now I’m going to be stuck in a square box for the next 12 years.
