W3 – Sleep

Sleep

Evades

Toss and turn

Pillows, blankets

Fly in discontent

This malady drives me

To curse every softness bit

Meditation try off putting

Again rising to walk back and forth

While frustration finds success in no sleep.

“Sleep evades, toss and turn, pillows, blankets fly”

W3 Prompt #78: Wea’ve Written Weekly

Insomnia

I think I’m just going to give up on sleep

Let all those mangy thoughts that keep

Dancing around in my mind and reap

Havoc, like some odd nightmare, they creep.

The clock glows one-thirty, then three

I nod off and hope to wake and see

At least six or seven

That would be heaven

But no, it seems to be stuck at four

Why can’t I stay asleep any more?

Guess I’ll get up, and open the door

To the fridge for cold water, watch it pour

Could it be thirst was keeping me awake?

I’m back in bed, open a book that will take

Me into a different world where it seems

That sleep is the hoped-for fantasy dream.

I have always liked Martin Short and this book has such funny stories you will laugh a lot and it’s great for a boost if you need one!

“In this engagingly witty, wise, and heartfelt memoir, Martin Short tells the tale of how a showbiz-obsessed kid from Canada transformed himself into one of Hollywood’s favorite funnymen…”. Google Books

Simply Six Minutes

It was respected, and named, “the old one”. It had grown there starting as a sapling, hundreds of years ago. The monks who planted it let it take over a few feet of the outside wall and then tried to trim it back. No matter how they tried it seemed impervious to any blade. Because of this all persons living in the area thought it was a sacred tree. Some people even set up small shrines by its roots. The monks have long since left the structure for new accommodations nearby. The tree remains.

Fandango’s Story Starter

This week’s Story Starter teaser is:

“Are you coming or not?” Carl demanded as he took a few steps further into the…ballroom. For weeks he had balked at his wife’s insistence on going to the lessons so now was the time to try them out. Nancy hesitated to enter because the lessons with Carl were fun and even romantic, but here in public? She was too nervous! The whole idea of going to the dance lessons was to rekindle their romantic passion but now she was almost scared. The safety of the small dance studio was fine but this huge ballroom? Carl’s face softened, took her hand, sensing her trepidation and put his arm around her. Maybe he too, wanted this reunion of feelings.

Melissa’s Flash Fiction

It is lonely here in Antarctica. Nothing but hues of white, blue and gray surround me. I was exploring a new location for a geological sensor when a shadow seemed to follow me. I looked up to see what appeared to be a red planet. Possibly the government task force that sent me here (to find evidence of new earth movements) knew something they didn’t tell me. I fumbled for my camera and tried to take a photo when the object disappeared. I never saw it again and chalked it up to the baked bean casserole I had for lunch.

A little tart

Julia’s recipe for the drink was the quintessential peak of her blooming career. Anyone who tried the lemon concoction could barely articulate the exact flavors and thought it might be a trick of Julia’s, that would tick off the right flavor sensors in their gut. However, the secret ingredient Julia tucked into her creation was a rather large dash of limoncello. Lemonade never tasted so good!
