W3 – Wheelchair

***

I’m black and shiny and roll along

Have extra padding if she sits too long

I can be cranky and stick my brakes

I don’t care how much strength it takes

I sound mean, admit I love to complain

But I’m her only way to maintain

Independence, so I should be nicer

Sometimes I smoothly glide to entice her

To use me, and get out of her other chair

Get out of the house for some fresh air

Once in a while we go shopping

It’s fun in the parking lot, not stopping

Then I’m loaded into the trunk

Causing a short feeling of funk

While waiting for another adventure

Life’s not bad, being a chair.

W3 Prompt #95: Wea’ve Written Weekly

Fun Times

Sleeping is not an easy task

Even with a lights out mask

Suddenly awoke with red all around

Took the opportunity to be bathroom bound

The doorbell jarred my brain loud and clear

It’s piercing for people who cannot hear

Then accompanied by a few knocks

I answered “who is it” donning my socks

Firemen ma’am they said, not distressed

I answered, hold on a sec I’m not dressed

I asked after moving in

If I could put the doorbell in the bin

Apparently it’s a housing law code thing

It’s not like the old ones that ding-alinged

With a melody or happy tune

It pierces your ears like a harpoon

But all is well nothing to fear

Fire and rescue is common here.

One Liner Wednesday

“Badges? Badges? We don’t need no stinkin’ badges!

This was definitely weird: I was woken at one to red lights flooding the bedroom and then a knock on the door. I don’t wear full pajamas so I went to the door and asked who it was, “firemen” they said. Yikes! I said “I’m not dressed, hold on a sec.”Apparently they were from a rescue ambulance sent to an apartment where there was a note saying to get her key from me. I don’t even know the person in that apartment! They believed me but needless to say I got no sleep the rest of the night. By the way those two firefighters were so young and cute and smiley no wonder I couldn’t get back to sleep😂

spring light in sunrise

sky brightness is a false warm

strong cold winds prevail

whipping cold tendrils descend

baby birds cling to straw nests

her daughter Jill. Jill had been in labor for two days and last night was supposed to be “the day”! “These new age doctors make me uncomfortable. Jill has been in pain for a long time, exhausted and should have delivered already. I wonder if she needs a c-section? Will you call and talk to Joe? Maybe the doctor won’t ignore her husband like he does me.” After Joe’s little “talk” with the doctor, Jill was transferred to a different hospital with a more knowledgeable obstetrician.

dVerse Poets Quadrille

Quadrille is a pocket-sized form of our own creation here at dVerse: a poem of just 44 words (not counting the title), including one word we provide. Today, I’d like you to tangle with the word touch

***

A simple thing really
just a skin to skin touch
radiating through at first the mind,
then the heart,
and all senses
making us human
the first touch a baby feels—
an experience expressing all of that
and provides a connection
lasting a lifetime

Quadrille #195 – Don’t Touch that Dial! (Stay and Write a Poem)

SYW 2-19-24

Here are this week’s questions:

1. What do you normally have for breakfast? I don’t eat breakfast

2.  Do you prefer to cook using gas or electricity? I prefer gas but only have electric appliances now

3.  When you are working on your computer/laptop/tablet/mobile device etc, do you listen to music or have something else on in the background? Yes but if writing I want it quiet.

4. Do you hang pictures on your walls, or prefer to have personal photographs on shelves? I have them on shelves

Gratitude: I’m grateful my personal dragon is recovering well after she came down with bronchitis and Covid, so I guess her body is telling her she needs to rest! It’s hard to keep a good woman down!☺️

Six Sentence Story

***

She entered the room to see a full on display of nude models in the startup artist studio. Sue had always wanted to be recognized as an artist and the coupon offering ten lessons for the price of five was giving her an opportunity. That’s what she thought as she gathered her supplies and drove to the studio. Sue was not a prude, who can be anymore, she thought to herself, but seeing three men completely nude in odd positions was a shock. She started to back up, trying to be discreet, when a young woman approached her, enthusiastically saying “So glad you’ll be joining us!” Sue tucked her supplies close to her and said, “I’ll pass.”
