W3 – My State

Please write a contemporary poem inspired by Robbie Burns, choosing from his three themes of Love, Nature and the Human Condition. (You may blend the themes—as in The Banks O’Doon, where Burns combines both love and nature).

The cowboy state as he recalled

Supposedly “equality state” for all

A misnomer as I disagree

Where white is the thing to be

Plains abound with resource spoils

Coal and dirt bound with oil

A jealous tick I think you’ll see

As—Colorado love is always seen

But Wyoming mountains hold a sheen

Cowboys, rodeos, high school sports’ teams

Rule the small town parent’s dream

If you visit, choose Jackson Hole

It plays the most charming role.

W3 Prompt #88: Wea’ve Written Weekly

Simply Six Minutes

***

The god sat there as always, pretending to be a stone edifice when actually he was alive and observing his flock. Such small malleable creatures were easy to fool and he enjoyed playing with them. Looking powerful yet accessible to them, they had no idea he was capable of controlling their will. Worshipped without question and loved unconditionally was his extraordinary life, as most gods of the world.

Fandango’s Story Starter

This week’s Story Starter teaser is:

“If I asked you to do something for me, would you do it no matter what?” Jessie asked. Being a curious little brother of six years, Joey jumped at the chance. “All you have to do is take this flower to that girl standing over there”, pointing to Jane, Jessie’s dream. Joey did it and Jane looked at him and her face turned red.

“Give that back to your brother, the coward!” The dream ended.

MLMM Photo Challenge

Sue pulled up to the strip mall. With a pocket full of twenties from her mother’s purse, she was going on an adventure! Would it be dying her hair blonde, since her body might possibly resemble Marilyn Monroe’s or a scandalous tattoo like her brother’s? Boys seemed to get away with everything and now it was her turn…she wondered if she had money enough for both changes.

dVerse Poets Haibun

A very human day for me as I paid bills, made a grocery list and tried not to add the salty snacks I have started to crave. My body is getting back an appetite after a month and salt seems to top the list.

snacks with salt

no health harbinger

resolve strength

veggies and fruit reign

now what of cravings?

Being human on New Year’s Day

Six Sentence Story

***

He wore it well, the handsome mask, never defining him as a caring empath. Walking through the hospital corridors with a seemingly blasé attitude, never stopped at a dying bed. In the late of night after a brief trip to his home, he would return as his true self, and a task of love. Touching lightly with a warm caress to ease pain, he visited all of the ones in need. After many years not being discovered, he enjoyed the interaction. Some might think him an angel, as he seemed to glide quietly through the dimly lit halls.

Sunday’s Six Sentence Story Word Prompt!

JJJ 2 – Gregorian

There’s a few things I’ve never done

And here I’ll name more than one:

Never driven a Delorean

Never chanted Gregorian

Never ate a single shrimp

Never cruised in a ship

Never flew in a helicopter

But never would refuse the offer

Never thought I’d love to write

Even though my mind is slight

Never thought my words be read

Reactions I might have dread

Ended up in the end

Making many interesting friends!
