NTT – Just the Facts Ma’am

Joe stopped for a smoke while thinking over what to do next. He knew Mrs. Jones was guilty but needed more to prove it. She taunted him with her curvy come hither gaze when he first met her. The crime was murder, and she thought her sorrowful demeanor would fool the police. Her special attention paid to him as lead detective on the case, didn’t fool Joe at all. He just needed one more piece of evidence to arrest her. He thought she might break down in interrogation and wanted her to confess. She was clever and conniving, thinking she could influence him with her feminine wiles. Of course Joe was no fool and knew exactly how she was trying to play him. If he had a nickel…he thought and smiled in spite of himself. He’d break her in the end, it’s just the end wasn’t coming quick enough. He could hold her on a few things he’d discovered already, but only a few hours. She had money and high priced suits at her beck and call. Joe decided to knock on her neighbor’s doors and see if he could find something new. Fortunately, there was old Mrs. Busybody who lived across the street. She knew everyone and every happening that went on. She had seen Mrs. Jones sneaking into her garage with a friend the night of the murder. They drove away in a strange car and Mrs. B wrote down the license plate number. After Joe listened to another long narrative of unrelated gossip, he went to his office and found the car’s owner. It was the last piece of the puzzle and Mrs. Jones and her accomplice were arrested. Case closed.
