Sammiscribbles Prompt – He Lost in Translation

I never said that!

Yes, you did. I can hardly believe it, George, it was a hateful thing to say.

What? Surely you know I would never compare you to her, Paula! My goodness, never would I be so rude!

You were, and you did, so I guess you think of me that way. Really, George, have you always felt that way about me and you’re just saying it now?

Believe me, you misunderstood what I said, please, Paula, you know I love you for you.

A lot of things have been said over the years, but this? This is unforgivable. You should leave.

I only said that you were acting like her. (the ex-wife)

SoCS June 22, 2019

Being from Vermont, White Birch trees and leaves I was familiar with. When living in Colorado, I thought the Aspens must be related since their leaves and bark seemed similar. Upon close inspection, they are not. Leaves and trees are a gift of nature.

MLMM First Line Friday

The most peculiar thing happened on the eleventh of November, just as the snow had begun to drift down.  I was walking to my gram-pa’s house, about a mile from my own when I saw her. All in white she was, with a touch of gold on the tip of her wings and a tiny spot above her hair, on what resembled a halo.

I had never seen anything like her before, as if it was a her, of course, because of the flowing white dress. How beautifully delicate her features, and that’s when I thought I was day dreaming. I often let my mind wander as I walked to my gram-pa’s house. I could probably complete the path with my eyes closed shut, I was so familiar with the small trek.

She seemed not to be flying, but her large wings were fluttering a bit and she didn’t stop me; she stayed by my side. I kept moving, was almost to his gate when she grew closer. “Don’t be afraid my dear” my mind heard, although she had not uttered a sound. I opened the gate and saw my gram-pa come out the door. He smiled at me and that is when she spread her wings, surrounding him and they both disappeared.

I ran into the house and found him there, laying peacefully, with the familiar smile. I was sad of course and missed him, but I knew he was happy, wherever he was.

Never heard or seen the Wrigley doublemint gum commercial? Just say it, “you’re old”.

With age comes certain sacrifice

Homes and health and memories

Forgetting some things may be nice

Though it’s always fun to see

My grandkids, when they’re acting like

My own kids when they were tykes

Makes you wonder where the days

Went so fast, seems with no delay

Time passes fast and soon enough

They too, will wonder about this “stuff”.

“My god, if I never see another wheat field, it will be too soon!” Marcia was tired from the cross country ride, and was bored enough to use her usual razor sharp tongue to make Dudley feel her disgust once again. “Give me the sight of my New York skyscrapers, or Los Angeles–even Houston would be preferable to this boring landscape. First corn, endless rows of the stuff, and now wheat, how monotonous can you get? We should have flown out instead. Another terrific idea you had, Dudley–let’s take a road trip, see the country…well I’ve seen plenty and I’m getting off at the next city. My god, is it Denver? We’ll almost be at your mother’s by that time. No use flying from there! Wake me when we hit the mountains.”

Friday Fictioneers

It looked ordinary, as if it was any other waiting room for exit flights. It was not what I expected as this was no ordinary airport. No one seemed as anxious as I was, maybe it wasn’t their first time. I hesitated, trying to find a section of three seats where I could sit in the middle and not have to deal with strangers. That would be happening soon enough.

Sitting next to a railing, feeling safe on one side at least, turned my attention to the others in the space. I wondered if anyone else was traveling to Hell.

T’was said that poor young Jon Snow

Was vapid, nothing did he know

Good at being a crow

While trying not to show

His soft mostly hidden heart

Until his enemies took part

In killing him they were not smart

An evil witch caused his restart

Scars remained from betraying darts.

Jon found a new love, a reprieve

Obvious heart borne on his sleeve

Admired the powerful blonde queen

Forgot his strength and took the knee

Love overshadowed her debris

He’s now wakened by her final decree.

At the end you knew too much, Jon Snow.

MLMM Wordle #138

“Artwork in Graphite” was the original title of this piece. Apropos of the nebulated piece, she thought.  What freedom he took with the medium, relying on long served clients to jump on his latest efforts, if only to boost their profit margin.
She lingered over it, trying to visualize any meaning, while his followers caressed the image with their gaze.  Rubbish, she thought, pure rubbish, allowing this thought to fester in her mind as she perused the remaining works of his exhibit.  She was stymied as to his popularity while it should be obvious a child would have more creative imagination.
Taking advantage of no lull in conversation, finding the artist alone for a moment, she decided to clasp hands with her former lover and whisper what she thought a deserved reflection of his talent, “detritus”.  She smiled at his shocked reaction and walked out of the gallery, satisfied.
