In the small mountain town of Amorea, it’s stretching toward autumn of 1954. The memories of a world at war are fading in the face of a prosperous future. Doors are left unlocked at night, and neighbors are always there to give each other a helping hand.
The people here know certain things as fact: Amorea is the best little town there is. The only good Commie is a dead Commie. The Women’s Club of Amorea runs the town with an immaculately gloved fist.

Shortcuts taken sometimes end up the wrong choice. Cooking chicken and dumplings for instance. Stewing a whole chicken with savory herbs, onions and vegetables, makes a great tasty broth. Then cooling the meat, deboning, and cutting it up and setting aside while the root vegetables finish cooking in the natural broth takes time. Preparing homemade dumplings, cooking them on top of the vegetables over broth takes twenty more minutes. When done, adding the meat and simmering till hot takes time, but the result is a delicious homey meal everyone will enjoy.
A shortcut involving frozen prepared chicken, canned broth, canned vegetables, and refrigerated biscuits, is quick yes, but is it worth it? I dont think so.🥴 Try both and then decide.
Have a great Sunday!🌸🦋🌺https://lindaghill.com/2017/11/03/the-friday-reminder-and-prompt-for-socs-nov-417/

For today’s prompt, take the phrase “In the (blank),” replace the blank with a word or phrase, make the new phrase the title of your poem, and then, write your poem.
In the Month of November
In the month of November
Chilled winds blow in mountain states
Bundled up children play in first snow of winter
Rusty blades scrape on a barely white road
Scarred pumpkins disintegrate on wooden porches
Brown leaves swirl in their death dance to the ground
And for all of these things
We remember to be thankful.

Ever the dreamer, never the truth
Revealed to herself, remains aloof
To everyday things, work or chores
She prefers books or films with no mores
Freedom to all and in all things
Loving to have them pull her strings
A puppet in love, and passionate scenes
These are her wishes, hopes and dreams
A fairy-look woman but with wings hidden
Wants to dip her toes in the forbidden.

The grouchy writer’s stamina was waning after a second night of too much to drink. The mundane task of a weekly column was interfering with his vision of becoming an author. The mix of alcohol and lack of ambition were certainly not helping to accomplish his goal.
Every time he looked at his reading desk holding copies of his brother’s books, Joe thought they were haunting him. How could he be related to such a talent? Was he ready to give up the dream of also becoming a great storyteller?
Joe slunk down into the oversized leather desk chair and woefully started typing again: Column Headline: “Mrs. Brown’s dog saved her life again!”
