The Sunday Whirl

Six spells were cast by the sketchy sorceress and you would surmise this would either fend off the maiden’s seemingly foggy brain or hold a brand on her as a murderer. Life of a maiden was not pleasant in troubled times, but it was well known she could ply the bark off a tree with only her words. The body of her lover lay at the her feet but no matter how the magician tried, still could not force a confession out of the maiden.

MLMM – Spirit?

I was in my twenties and mother of three. At that time β€œthe men” gathered at one neighbor’s house and β€œthe women” in another on Friday or Saturday evenings. (It was the sixties.) No flower children residing in my new little neighborhood with young families and stay at home moms of which I was the only one.

We gathered at my home around a hexagon shaped Spanish style table and there were four chairs, one empty. One of the women opted out when another one’s attempted a seance to contact her beloved mother. Nervous giggles abound but she brought a ouija board and we were all curious. A candle lit the otherwise darkened room and we all clasped one hand and the other on the edge of the board.

J called to her mother as she spelled her name on the board and it was so still you could hear us breathing. Then the board moved. J thought I’m sure, that her mother’s spirit was around us. No one moved but J slunk back in her chair and let go of the board.

That night I told my husband that I felt a small breeze float by and sit in the empty chair and of course he laughed. I told no one else. Two days later one of the other women who joined us told me in hushed tones that she had felt a presence coming into the empty chair. I confessed I felt it too. This was an eerie experience we all confessed to at the next β€œboys night out”. It was the second eerie happening I experienced in my life.

MLMM Saturday Mix

β€œI thought it wouldn’t turn out! You told me if I used this applicator, my roses on the birthday cake would turn out perfectly! So I fastened it to the pastry bag and floop! The bag broke under pressure from your handy little device and now the frosting is all over the place! Thanks for your help, Paul Hollywood.”

dVerse Poets

We as a nation

Land of milk and honey

Dripping with smug attitude

Turning into something construed

By rich and white and selfishly crude

What happened to the statue’s promise

Or life and liberty and happiness

Can we ever return to love of man

If any nation will and can

We must return to that land.

Sammiscribbles Weekend Writing Prompt

As I sit here and postulate
about the word absquatulate
I reach for a dictionary and contemplate
the meaning of this wordβ€”debate
Why use a word so antiquated
Even if it’s easily mated
With similar old, outdated?
Others are more often stated
Using a meaning easier rated:
(To leave abruptly)
Why not say scram Sam, or beat it
Or pointedly gesture, get out
Say pull up stakes, or let’s bounce
Or tip your hat with smile and scoff
You have to dash and be off.

Weekend Writing Prompt #334 – Absquatulate

SoCS 10-21-23

I have a large storage box full of material from when my grandkids were small and I made character sleeping bags for them, plus costumes and many other baby things. I’m most proud of a complete baptism outfit for my first grandson who is now a 29 year old firefighter. Those tiny little sleeve cuffs and lace trims were difficult ☺️ His sleeping bag was an intricate Batman with all the little fanglike edges of the cape. Such fun and a long time ago.

Have a nice weekend 🍁

3TC – Teenagers

The boy entered the school seminar audience and chose an advantageous seat. He plopped down in between Poppy and Violet. The girls started to giggle and it served to endear them to him. Of course he was full of raging hormones but he did want to be friends with them at least. All seemed to be going well until a teacher rose up in front of them and told them to β€œhush up!”
