The Sunday Whirl

***

I wasn’t as fit as I had been and started to feel miserably tired and lightheaded. Venturing higher in the wooded area I was now too tired. I thought to myself you are nuts going off on your own and then my throat agreed as I gulped water from an aluminum bottle attached to my backpack.

A riddle came to me as I leaned back on a large rock. “Into the forest I go to lose my mind and fill my soul” by John Muir. I guess that’s what I was doing, or trying at least. I did find a peace of sorts, it was so quiet there, even the birds seemed to be napping.

Suddenly a loud bang and I sat up quickly. I thought I heard a tiny whimper close by and saw a fawn laying in the grassy enclave. The deer was obviously suffering as blood spurted out near its jaw. I looked up to see a grown man near, obviously the shooter, seemingly blind to the harm he inflicted.

“What rights do you have to harm this innocent baby deer?” I yelled at the man who appeared nonchalant.

“You’re lucky I didn’t get you instead!” And then incredibly, he swung the fawn over his shoulder and walked off. I stood there for a moment, shocked, and then hurriedly made my way back to my car.

Six Sentence Story

***

Joe never thought much about security, he only had a padlock on his storefront metal door, as there was not much crime in this part of town—everyone was older and kept to themselves, and no one had much of anything of value. He was fixing the padlock on the gate when headlights blinded him as a vehicle crept up close, not giving him room to move aside. A man jumped out of the high pickup, shoved a gun, Joe thought, into his neck, yelling “Open up!” and Joe did so. Joe dared not speak as he stood looking down to the pavement as ordered, and did not turn around as the man retrieved an item from Joe’s store and they sped off. When the police arrived asked Joe what happened, he told them, but couldn’t answer when they asked what was taken. Joe knew who and what it was, but he wasn’t talking.

MLMM Saturday Mix

The high rise medical building was crossing a new bridge in the development of cancer cures. Communications of the wealthy sponsors and the actual doctors on staff at the research facility was important and even though they all operated on an advanced system, responses seemed to drag on. S far there was a hope the eucalyptus flower was the solution and it certainly was an available resource. To spring forward with testing the new cures, required an eyes on approach from the benefactors and travels between the two seemed endless. The estimated timeline for an actual cancer patient to receive such cures, was in the future, probably around 2050.

SoCS 6-24-23

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “starts with ‘ab’.” Find a word that starts with “ab” and use it in your post. Enjoy!

Abs, abs, abs—is that all a body is? Speaking as a disabled person I have NO “abs” and I recently watched part of a new Disney series with Chris Hemsworth and find there is a certain appeal to having abs.😂.

The series is quite interesting focusing on different ways to lead a longer healthier life, involving some techniques I dare not try. The first episode however, considers how to control your stress levels and I think it possible for everyone to benefit from the methods seen. Check it out, with or without abs.

“In the six-part docuseries Limitless With Chris Hemsworth, the actor spends a year pushing his body to various limits in order to unlock the human body’s potential. He deals with his stress, tests his strength, sees if fasting helps extend life, and more.”

Only 100 Words/TLT

“I dare you to say that one more time”, her look amplifying the threat. Joe stopped and put the camera down, not realizing the impact of words she took the wrong way—“I only meant I thought you wanted a complete photo shoot for my magazine”. Standing on the sandy beach, the “BEACH FUN” photographer asked her to pose only in her bikini, but he was wrong.

Fandango’s Flashback Friday

Oh the dentist chair

An enviable lair

With a view sublime

Yes, it’s tooth pain time.

They escort you in

Say, “lift your chin”

They attach a bib

Their smile is glib

Then he turns his back

While a needle he jacks.

“Open wide”  he says with a smile

You’re getting more nervous all the while

Couldn’t I just have gas instead?

“No, I think it would mess with your head”

So I close my eyes and grip the chair

Try to focus on something not there

As the pain rises, so does my dread

Almost done?  Pain fools with my head

I try to stay still as the needle pokes

Again and again, and it envokes

More pain with no numbing relief

I can’t take much more, good grief!

I try to relax my hands on the arms

The chair’s upholstery might come to harm

I don’t want to squirm, might make it worse

I wonder if dentists ever rehearse.

I’ve heard of the colleges and schools

The volunteer patients must be fools!

I know dentists have a job to do

Keeping teeth healthy for me and you

But there’s been no advances in many years

That whining drill still hurts my ears

And couldn’t there be a numbing solution

Before using needles in this institution?

I suppose I’ll just have to grin and bear it

But it’s frightening to have to dare it

Either that or a toothless grin

You see the predicament that I’m in?

W3 6-21-23

Not quite a murder
No malice intended
Just sitting on the wire
Wings not extended
Maybe later if something delicious is spied
It could be juicy or even dry
We are not picky, we are crows
Detested by some and artfully posed
No matter your view we’re always about
A truth old as time, there is no doubt
Might as well make friends and toss out a treat Till death and I use your tombstone as a seat.

W3 Prompt #60: Wea’ve Written Weekly

3TC + Downslide

No need to wonder, the mosaic of the current government has been harmfully vitiated by a former president. Beginning with an ounce of hate speech, lewd behavior, lies and irrational actions, he has taken the level of human dignity down into a result of worthlessness. Before the 2016 election, prior to the outing of unhinged, radical outbursts of the morons of society, we were fighting to return dignity to every citizen.
