“This must be misplaced. It’s not for sale” and the man grabbed the book from Jeremy. The tome was leather bound and worn at the edges. It resembled a diary and had a leather strap and lock. The owner of the store quickly placed the book under the counter and stood there making sure the book was safe.

Jeremy was mystified and asked the man if it belonged to a relative of his. The older man looked Jeremy in the eye and admitted yes, it belonged to his grandfather. “Then why was it out here in the store?”

The proprietor leaned in to Jeremy and said, “it often places itself out here.”

“What?”

“Yes, you see my grandfather’s ghost lives here and I think he wants people to read his adventures”.
Jeremy turned and quickly walked out of the establishment, never to return.

I can’t seem to win for losing

My life happens with no choosing

Just when I think it’s done

In the mail comes another one

My advice – don’t let your body break

Medical bills your life will take

Bills upon bills from every venue

A two minute look and they think they own you

Careless attitudes with no actual hands on care

They bill you even if they weren’t there!

Some people have extra high cost insurance

Even then, policies provide no assurance

And now when the government’s on the fence

We’ll probably be spending even more dollars and cents.

Grandma was the wise one in the family. Her life had been one great adventure, and she had wonderful tales to inspire for all of her younger family. Many a time a story of hers would influence one of the young people, and her ideas would only come across as a narrative, not a sentence of advice. Her own children had often sat at her knee and listened as she enjoyed a cup of tea, wisely knowing, “every day unfurls as it must”.

Everyone loves their portable phones. Cells or flip or large screen size, no one uses a desk phone anymore. When I first married and moved over two thousand miles away, I had to ring an operator on a switchboard to make a call. Then this telephone operator told me she would call me back when she could get my party on the wire. It might take hours or even a day to receive the operator’s return call. Your cell phone bills may be high but telephone calls back then were also expensive and of course much less convenient.

“Please, sugar, you know I love you.” Then showing his frustration, “don’t be such a square!”

Joe thought he could win Julie over with a kind approach, and once she was in his arms, the rest of his seduction process would take place.

Joe had thrown himself into the contest, done the necessary nerve wracking pleas with three other girls and won, but Julie was becoming obstinate. He knew she was the quality win, on the top of the boys’ list, but so far she had resisted his “charms”.

The mist in the air embraced the garlands on the altar making the small white flowers resemble pearls. The odd turtle back shape of the dais apparently was built by an amphibian lover and of course the entire space was bordering on the sea. A perfection of ocean reveries reverberated throughout and even the name was symbiotic, Vanishing View, because all in attendance knew the oceans were becoming so polluted that even a former place of worship would soon succumb to being uninhabitable.
