Daily Addictions Prompt: Convenient

The kids were hot

I was not lenient

Ice cream for tots

Very convenient!

πŸ˜“πŸ˜“

I thought it nice

And would suffice

To cool them down

While in town.

πŸ€”πŸ€”

Eating something cold

Was not too bold

But the melting mould

Was getting old

😧😧

Fast dripping cream

The heat won out

Even licking fast

It caused a pout

😟😟

Temporary cooling

Was not fooling

No longer sunny fun

Thankful the day is done

😎😎

Hose or no hose, that is the question

Inspired by the awesome lady at mydangblog, I agree with her latest blog. There are a lot of weird people out there just like me and it took writing a blog to discover them. I am so grateful! She referenced another blog wasthatmyoutloudvoice and I had another great laugh reading her blog. If you are just having an ordinary, or less than ordinary day, check them out. You’ll definitely get a boost to keep yourself smiling.

A couple of subjects discussed today were about trying on clothes, swimsuits, underwear, etc and I wrote a similar post about trying on bras in public, well, in a small dressing room that turned out it might as well have been public. The swim suit issue reminded me of living in humid weather and trying to get dressed for work. Wearing panty hose, yes I’m that old, was a requirement which I didn’t mind since I’m very white. Unless I wanted to look like a dressed birch tree with my legs not “hosed”, I needed the stockings.

Getting these torturous delicate overly long bits of see-through nylon onto sweaty legs might qualify as an Olympic feat, or as I call it, wetswimsuit syndrome. Ever have fun putting on a wet form-fitting swimsuit?

Back to the pantyhose. Rolling them up, starting at the toes and carefully pulling them on to not cause a run, is pretty easy until you get over the knee. From there up is where talent should kick in. Unless you have the legs of Twiggy, your thighs do touch, and being hot and sweaty, they don’t really like to be encased in nylon. Working slowly, now standing up, trying not to lose your balance, pulling them up and over the hips, you’ve made it! Hallelujah! I might offer too much information telling you I have used a hairdryer on cool before, during, or after this process to make it easier to accomplish. The words “picture it” from Golden Girls’s Sophia comes to mind. Or maybe not.

All well and good, you finish dressing and get into your car, sitting on a hot seat which causes further sweating in the area. By the time you arrive at the office, the nylon fibers are literally eating into your thighs, at least it feels like they are. Thank heavens for the new fashion of wearing no hose. It’s not Marlene Dietrich but it’s comfortable.

Putting My Feet in the Dirt 15 and 16

“Chances are, it was the antics of an arsonist” the old detective offered. Closing his small flipstyle notebook, he shoved it and his pen into an inside pocket. “We’ve had a few of these in the past year and a half, you know. . .a protest”.

His younger companion, new to even the word protest and what it means, looked at Detective Marley curiously. “Protest? There’s no one here, no marchers, not even a sign laying around. Why do you think it’s a protest?”

The senior detective climbed back into the unmarked car and relit his cigar. Taking his time, puffing until he had it glowing sufficiently, he settled back in his seat. “Ever notice the hair on the new prez?”

The younger man still looked quizzically at his senior. “Uh, yes, it looks fake but I think it’s thinning quickly”.

“Exactly. And what’s the location of this fire?”

“A wig shop?”

“And what were the only items burned?”

A slow smile of recognition spread across his face as he started to laugh.

Movie Monday

Watched again this weekend. I really like Will Smith and his movies. I just watched “Bright” on Netflix, liked that too. If you like con men stories, you’ll enjoy this movie, “Focus”.

,Nicky (Will Smith), a veteran con artist, takes a novice named Jess (Margot Robbie) under his wing. While Nicky teaches Jess the tricks of the trade, the pair become romantically involved; but, when Jess gets uncomfortably close, Nicky ends their relationship. Three years later, Nicky is in Buenos Aires working a very dangerous scheme when Jess — now an accomplished femme fatale — unexpectedly shows up. Her appearance throws Nicky for a loop at a time when he cannot afford to be.

Sammiscribbles Weekend Writing Prompt #63

Walls no longer strong, with sturdy wood beams and large stones completing a fireplace in the old home. Heavy walls that sheltered the occupants inside, kept intruders outside, were crumbling around them. Many years passed since the walls kept them safe and protected, and presently were deemed unnecessary.

In past days of war, the small fortress was needed by the Kelly family. As years passed, their children grew and moved away. The Kellys were also deteriorating. It was time to be absent, not watching their family home crumbling.

Carrot Ranch Flash Fiction – Dream

As an adult, I dreamed of the fence, peeking through the broken slats once again.

In my eight year old dreams, the view beyond the fence was where I longed to be. Every child dreams of a storybook place and this was mine.

Through the fence, a beautiful meadow strewn with pastel flowers, led to a stream. Bluegreen water with fanciful creatures, fairies, and sprites hovering and chubby frogs I could hold that just might turn into a prince. My dream continued into evening with the very same frogs creaking and fireflies illuminating the space, completed with bright stars.

She couldn’t help herself. Her palm ran over the fabric releasing a pleasure signal in her brain. The frock was made of smooth silk. She casually let her purse fall beside her, near the display. As the clerk failed to observe her actions, she slowly slid the garment into her bag.

Gilly was a kleptomaniac. She often arrived home only to discover something new in her possession.

Keeping out or keeping in

Sneaking out or sneaking in

Opened for you to intrude

Open, for no one to exclude

Is the life better there

All the travel for this fare?

It looks gloomy, rather dark

Not even see a fire spark

Is this your resignation

Your dream destination?

Maybe the old life was not so bad

Is this better than what you had?

Three Line Tales 128 – Not an Ordinary Man

This is how I think of him, basking in golden glory. It wouldn’t be his choice, but I choose to picture him like this. Not all the time of course. There are times the gold is white in fear, black in depression, or red with anger.

He’s not an ordinary man. He has many sides, many secrets, some I am privy to, others he keeps hidden, even from me. I love him, so I can forgive anything he might think unforgivable.

That’s the way it is with us. A love that’s near when needed, distant in space, close in heart.
