Putting My Feet in the Dirt 5

It was considered a stark painting, not well received. The fact her efforts were not recognized favorably by critics didn’t bother her at all. She knew the reason behind it, knew the hidden beauty of “Woodland White”.

Jenny lived in the woods. She always dreamed of living in a secluded cabin with only nature’s beauty surrounding her. Her previously celebrated works of art now afforded her this dream turned reality.

Winter was the most beautiful season in her opinion. She painted all seasons, but there was a certain unique beauty and artistry to capturing a frozen landscape. Some might think it’s just a mound of white snow, but Jennifer brought out all the nuances of the winter scene. The many shades of white, dappled with creams from the sun, midnight blues, and icy sparkles, all fascinated her.

Jenny lived an unencumbered life in the cabin with all of nature’s splendor.

Let It Bleed: Transitory

I’ve led a transitory life as most people my age. Once I was a fresh eighteen year old full of hope and excited about possibilities.

I married young, had three beautiful children and was married for almost fifty years. I now have eight grandchildren who grow unexpectedly fast.

The changes come every few years. Starting out you are healthy and have a great job and then you aren’t, and don’t. First you have a constant companion and then you don’t. You had great teenage children and then they’re gone.

Then you’re blessed with son in laws, daughter in laws and grandchildren at your feet. And then they grow and have lives of their own.

Transitory is the word, and you just need to survive it.

How to Make Hot Chocolate Mix | The Pioneer Woman

It’s that time again for everything warm and cozy. I used to make hot chocolate mix in huge gallon jars when the kids were little. I used a recipe from a Mormon cookbook which had wonderful recipes for making things out of what you have without using a commercial brand. If I find that book : ) I’ll post some handy recipes from it. For now I’ll post this one from the Pioneer Woman. I’ve watched her show and most recipes are simple, but they never show the work behind the scenes. Who couldn’t accomplish something easily if everything was peeled, chopped and measured ahead of time? Oh well, that’s never going to happen! : ))

Putting My Feet in the Dirt 4

I had a craving for Mexican fare

Felt taco telepathy might repair

A Saturday night all alone

My nephew I decided to phone

Busy tonight? I asked with a grin

Knowing I could always count on him

Have you eaten yet? I asked with hope

My car’s broken down, I feel such a dope

I think it’s just out of gas

Wondering if he’d just let that pass

I waited to hear his helpful response

And hoped I appeared nonchalant

Why no, I’d like to assist

Only one thing I must insist

I suddenly crave Mexican food

But I don’t want to be rude

Why how strange, I’d like some too

Ok, I’ll be there in a few

Wonderful, dear, and thank you!

Bonus Movie

I read this book years ago and couldn’t wait to see the movie made.

“Never Cry Wolf” written by Farley Mowat was pubished in 1963. It is a true account of his studies and adventures in 1948 among the wolves of Manitoba. Mowat was a Canadian author–check out his bio below the video.

***
Research scientist Tyler (Charles Martin Smith) is sent to the desolate Canadian tundra to find out whether the local wolf population is responsible for decimating Canada’s caribou herds. Helped by Ootek (Zachary Ittimangnaq), a local Inuit native, Farley manages to establish an observation post and, while braving the harsh climate, begins to study a family of wolves, as well as the caribou. He eventually determines that the greatest danger to the caribou doesn’t move on four legs.

First I have to thank ceenphotography.com for all of her hard work on this Share Your World section of WP. I think everyone enjoys it and appreciates the time she has put into it along with all of the other challenges she has. So we’ll miss you, but keep in touch!

Also, a hearty welcome to the new lady in charge: sparksfromacumbustiblemind.com. I love the new colors on the badge! Thank you for accepting the challenge and taking on this responsibility.

A big thank you to both ladies!

My answers for today’s questions:

1. I tell my grandchildren a lot of stories about growing up a million years ago, on a dairy farm, our family life then and my life with their grandfather and their mom as she grew up. Of course I also tell it like it is, maybe too much?

2. I can’t really think of anything except my first “real” job. Starting out as a clerk and ending up as a secretary to a large group of scientists. The first part was a clerk in a small room with two middle aged good old boys who did their best to embarrass me every day. The next job in the same building but a different section, was great, treated with dignity and respect.

3. This question is funny. Probably I would say, thinking I am funny.

4. Maybe the worst thing I could overhear while going under for surgery would be, “you got this. . .right?”

I appreciated hearing from someone I worry about that they are okay. All quiet on the western front as everyone else was out of town. I finished “Downton Abbey” and made a cup of creme brΓ»lΓ©e caramel coffee at home. I even topped it with whipped cream. Not exactly perfect, but I’ll keep at it.

Putting My Feet in the Dirt 1,2,3

A touch of perfect
2. September sunrise
3. Plump and provocative

The September sunrise brought new hope for John. He thought a new month, a new attitude, and just in time for an autumn romance.

The crispness of the air, the colored leaves falling, the scent of apples in the wind, all were a touch of perfect timing and led him to believe he would be successful.

John had admired the woman in Brown’s Bakery shop for some time. She always wore a cheery face greeting him in the morning. She had a plump and provocative figure he dreamed of being very close to.

Being a bachelor for many years, John never thought he would find someone and when he first saw Miss Brown, he fell in love. She was perfect. He had seen plenty of trendy skinny models at the office, always looking like they needed a good meal and a nap. They didn’t appeal to John. His dream was standing behind the counter, baking, smiling and serving customers.

Movie Monday

Watched this film over the weekend and was on the edge of my seat–a true story written by Casey Sherman and Michael J. Tougias.

On Feb. 18, 1952, a massive storm splits the SS Pendleton in two, trapping more than 30 sailors inside the tanker’s sinking stern. Engineer Ray Sybert bravely takes charge to organize a strategy for his fellow survivors. As word of the disaster reaches the Coast Guard in Chatham, Mass., Chief Warrant Officer Daniel Cluff orders a daring rescue mission. Despite the ferocious weather, coxswain Bernie Webber takes three men on a lifeboat to try and save the crew against seemingly impossible odds.
