Scott’s Daily Prompt: Afford

πŸŽ„πŸŽ„πŸŽ„

Well here it is December eight

So many items on your plate

All preparing for the 25 date

Certainly, you need not be late.

πŸŽ„πŸŽ„πŸŽ„

A gift for George, a boogie board

A soccer ball for a reward

A music box that plays a chord

Of course you’re sure you can afford.

πŸŽ„πŸŽ„πŸŽ„

That diamond necklace for her neck

Apple Watch, the latest tech

Wooden toys kids can’t wreck

All these gifts–what the heck?

πŸŽ„πŸŽ„πŸŽ„

Little Susie needs that doll

Then puppy Spot wants a ball

Grandma June could use a shawl

All available at the mall.

πŸŽ„πŸŽ„πŸŽ„

Gifts galore, spending plenty

Opened gifts, more than twenty

Dollars spent, even pennies

Why then do you feel so empty.

πŸŽ„πŸŽ„πŸŽ„

The money spent for such things

Tied with ribbons, even strings

Does much lasting comfort bring?

Search your heart for love that wings

Instead.

FOWC: Pencil

I’m not touching that!

Why not, it’s just a pencil?

Look at it! The erasers been chewed off, and there’s teeth marks on the sides! Yuck!

So it’s been used. . .

Not touching it, nope, never.

You know with this global warming affecting the forests, we have to take what we can get!

That’ll be the day!

The Secret Keeper #170

It was late to be wrapping this gift, a most important one. Her favorite work of art made just for Joseph. She chose the frame carefully. It should not detract from the art itself, where she was determined to make him focus.

It had been five years of pain, all of it bundled into this last creation. It only needed a simple frame to have the paint strike an arrow through his heart. That is what she hoped would happen–somehow striking him down as revenge.

Marie was not always this vengeful. It was a result of misjudging what she proposed as a lifetime of love and devotion, turning into disappointment, sadness and self loathing. Five years ago she met Joseph–a prince she thought. After a time, his love dwindled, her confidence abandoned, and now she hated him, and herself. The art piece was the culmination.

Her mind had turned into an unstable storm of hatred and defeat. It was only as she completed the painting with her own special ingredients added to the oils that calmed her. She covered the painting, hardly waiting for it to dry completely. A plain brown paper wrap was chosen. The bright red ribbon finished into a perfect bow, and she rang for a messenger.

The courier arrived and picked up the package waiting outside Marie’s door. He noticed something had spilled on the brown paper but ignored it to make his delivery on time.

Joseph opened the present and then called the authorities. Marie was almost gone. At the stroke of midnight, she took her last breath. She was found shortly after, laying in a pool of blood by her easel.

MLMM Wordle #212

Known to his kingdom as a cantankerous ruler, King Badmash was often ridiculed by his subjects. All done in secret of course, as the “off with yer head” phrase was frequented by this wild man. Even at the nightly buffet for his personal friends, he was known to be moody, sometimes volatile if his rules were not strictly obeyed; often torpedoing a loaf of bread or goose leg to anyone who dared challenge his opinions.

King Badmash would then sulk, hearing grunts of displeasure around the table with a melancholy mood surrounding the group. In a particularly distressing evening, he would stomp off to his favorite thinking spot, the lighthouse, where he would light the oil candle flame. This signal was only pertinent to the real love of his life, who each night waited for the beam of light. As his lover, waiting for a sign to join him in a secret rendezvous once again, Miss Scarlett would rush to the top of the lighthouse. At these meetings only, would King Badmash reveal his true loving self.

SoCS 12-08-18

Good day! It warmed up to 31F here, still some snow and ice lying around, but sunny and bright, always a cheering factor. Up bright and early since my grandson is home from college and has a key to my apartment. That means he could stroll in at any moment, so I’m always prepared!

The Prompt being musical fits well with my grandchildren especially. We all love music, some just listen, others play and it means a lot to us as a family. We have tuba, trumpet, coronet, drum, xylophone, marimba, bass drum, violin, banjo, and guitar players to name a few.

The ride home from my granddaughter’s white coat ceremony at UCD, comprising three of my grandsons, ages 24-15, was very musical. Radio turned up, all singing songs since the oldest had preselected the choices. He knew every lyric. I guess sitting in an ambulance waiting for a call does that to a person! πŸ˜‚

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend while I sit here having a piece of fudge gifted me by my grandson’s girlfriend. Is it wrong to have fudge for breakfast? πŸ™„I think she’s a keeper!πŸ˜‰

The Friday Reminder and Prompt for #SoCS Dec. 8/18

MLMM First Line Friday 12-7-18

Florence paused at the door, “what the hell did you just say?” Florence couldn’t believe it. After all this time and effort, she was a failure. Teenagers–can’t live with them, can’t live without them!

Flo was a single mom and devoted to her two children, Jesse, 15, and Joe, thirteen. Her entire life revolved around them. It was obvious to her, not just this morning, something was missing. Of course it was Harry, she thought sadly. Since Harry had ended up missing in action in Vietnam, she had tried her best. The boys, especially at this age, needed their dad.

They used to be the perfect family, doing everything together, able to pose for the cover of “The Saturday Evening Post”. That’s how everything had seemed at the time, perfect. Then Harry was called to serve in the Army. They’ve been alone since finding out he was missing. Hope for ever seeing their dad again dwindled as time went on. The boys took their disappointment and anger out on their mother in different ways. She tried to explain it was not anyone’s fault, they could be strong together, but as they grew into teens, they proved to be more resistant.

This morning Florence was answered to, “be careful!” she said every morning, with a grumbled, “bug off”. Florence shut the door and settled into the kitchen table to finish her coffee. Reluctantly, she got up, took a shower and readied herself for her volunteer job at the VA hospital. It was not the cheery place it should be at this time of year, but she and a couple of other Army wives were determined to decorate as much as possible.

As she opened the door for the driveway to leave, she spotted a taxi on the street. She started crying immediately as she saw her husband step out of the cab. He was just as she remembered him on the day he left, except he had a little grey in his black hair and was leaning on crutches.

“The best Christmas present ever!” Florence ran down the driveway to embrace her husband.
