“Welcome to New Orleans, Miss Jones! All of the staff here at the “It’ll Do” hotel are happy to serve you!”

The doorman looked friendly in his shabby chic uniform, and Stella could hardly take her eyes off the iron worked door. Stella always wanted to see New Orleans and luckily came by a website offering huge money saving deals for the trip. She slipped by the greeter with a smile and a thank you.

“Shall I take your bags while you check in?” Stella nodded and proceeded to the front desk. Completing the paperwork, she slowly ascended the stairway, also rimmed with wrought ironwork.

Stella was enamored of the antique atmosphere and took her time settling in. The room was nicely furnished in antiques and a four postered feather bed. She fell back and let the bedding envelop her. She smiled and just relaxed into it. She needed this vacation, and this bed was heavenly.

The hotel dining room was also beautiful and she sampled some of Louisiana’s specialties. She was feeling decadent as she lingered over every bite.

Exhausted from the trip and looking forward to the next day activities, Stella donned her pajamas and once again sunk into the featherbed.

Eerie streetlight drifted in and she rose to shut the heavy draperies. It was then she looked down onto the street. Daylight must have kept them out of site, but now she was horrified to see large rats scurrying on the street below. Thank god I’m on the third floor she thought and then she yanked the drapes shut and leaped onto the bed.

Pulling the covers up to her chin she felt shivers from the sight of the rats. Surely they aren’t inside, she reasoned, surely…just then she heard a noise from the dark corner of the room. Then a scraping, and scurrying of something–a rat? She started to panic. No wonder the room was so cheap, as she pulled the covers over her completely, frightened and waiting until morning light.

FFF Challenge #18

Sorry I had to delete the photo, Fandango. It showed up with the post over it making both things “unseeable”.

“All things created equal, I’d say this has been a great day.” Joe joined the office in raising their glasses of champagne celebrating the new addition. Joe was proud of the accomplishment, adding a balcony to the boring office setting. The extra space was large by San Francisco standards, and one entire side of the tenth floor now sported a wide patio.
Joe’s office drones looked forward to spending time working on their laptops in the fresh air and cooling mist coming off the bay. Joe’s idea was to inspire the team and he expected new ideas and more productivity from new found freedom. There were a few naysayers from the top, as always , but Joe persevered to see his ideas come to life.
The sliding doors access were large enough so anyone who decided to remain inside had full view of the bay also. “I have to admit you were right, Joe. This is what this old firm needed, rejuvenation. You took a concept and ran with it. Congratulations!” George gripped Joe’s hand tightly–almost a warning handshake. “Now we’ll see what the bottom line shows at the end of the month.” Joe downed his champagne in one gulp.

Monday Movie

My interest in baseball was piqued last year during the World Series with the Boston Red Sox. Partly because my grandson Jesse won Sharon Robinson’s essay contest which she iniated to honor her father, Jackie Robinson.

Jesse and his dad were rewarded with trip to Boston and much more. You can read my other posts about these events here: Red Sox Win and I’m so Excited, and Daily Prompt: Luminescent. I wrote a few posts during the season and the series and about my grandson Jesse.

My choice today is,”Moneyball” – very interesting and enjoyable. An inside look at “America’s pastime” that makes remarkable points.

“Well good day, madam! I’m at your service, anything, anytime, anywhere, you name it, it’s yours!”
I looked him up and down, thinking, what could I ask for, what could he really do for me that I can’t do myself, probably better.
He was not discouraged, he just kept standing there, looking like a friendly goofball. What would I need from him, anything?
He was offering some paper with his hand outstretched, and he had a bag, full of what I wondered, how could he possibly help me? It had been years since anyone asked me what I really wanted, how I really felt, what I really needed.
He then pushed the paper into my hand. Reluctantly I accepted it, opened it, to find a childish drawing of a heart. Under the heart was written, “someone cares for you today”. I looked up from reading to speak to this stranger. He had disappeared, nowhere to be seen. I clasped the paper and genuinely smiled for the first time in days.

Word of the Day: Daddy

This is a strange word for me personally. We grew up calling our father Dad. I never remember using the word daddy, ever. Probably my reason for this is the term daddy is seemingly more casual, friendly, warmer.

Our father was old school, a disciplinarian, hard worker, three pack of Lucky Strikes a day machinist, horseman, dairy farmer. That was how I knew him. In his young years he lived on a small homestead, managed horses and was a real western cowboy. I doubt anyone who knew him would ever think the word daddy applied.

When I moved to Texas from New England, I thought it humorous that all of our friends who were from Southern states called their fathers daddy. A grownup calling their father daddy seemed odd. There were plenty of other things I found odd in that “2000 miles away from home” area, too. I’ll write of them another time.
Meanwhile, a very fun Happy Father’s Day to all of you!❤️

The young rabbi wasn’t sure if he would conduct the wedding ceremony correctly, but he hoped to shine. Everything went well until the reception. The first dance was a waltz and the bride and groom looked so happy as they sashayed around the floor. The cake, the flowers, the guests–all seemed to be going well until the groom’s exwife made an appearance.

She was not invited and strode in like a tornado wearing a risqué red dress, causing some of the elderly ladies to abruptly find their seats.

The DJ assessed the situation and hoping to diffuse the unfortunate incident, chose “Wrecking Ball” and turned it up loud. As a result the crowd erupted in laughter and the lady in red disappeared.

Shine – Word of the Day Challenge

SoCS June 15, 2019

Yesterday was an all social day….we dropped off the two library volunteers, purchased a new vacuum…finally…had lunch and then back home for a rest.

My grandaughter picked me up and we saw “John Wick Parabellum”. I liked the first two–I know they are violent, but I liked the story and the character. To understand #3, you need to see the first ones. I was disappointed, and extreme violence grew tiresome. There were some funny typical JW lines and I enjoy Keanu Reeves; Halle Berry is always good. If you see it, let me know what you think.

I don’t want to jinx it, we’ve had a few warmer days, but not as warm as summer should be–typical Wyoming.

I have to add I am “sick and tired” of seeing the Gut Doctor ad all over my posts…are you too? It is gross!
