I’m familiar with red
Since it’s on my head
Born with red hair
And skin very fair
Freckles of course
Come with that look
Not just in picture books.
I always wanted raven hair
Then today it’d be white
Giving such a flair.
But no I am now stuck with red

Being aware is a simple task. You might think you are an upfront, observant person, but it takes true aloneness to be fully aware of your surroundings. At that time, every tick of the clock, every howl of the wind, a small dog’s bark, you hear these. When no one else is with you your senses heighten. Little things are not drowned out by conversation, or blurred by bodies moving around you. Slight nuances such as a cupboard door not closed, crumbs on the kitchen floor, dusty shelves, all seem to call for your attention. You might wish for a distraction from these mundane occurrences, but when you’re alone, you cannot help being very aware.

“So, she said as I watched her turning my garment over and over. “Who taught you how to sew in the first place? Your stitches are uneven, your hem is too short, and the inset sleeves are completely different! I can’t believe you turned this in as a finished garment!”
I backed up, afraid she was going to explode, she was so upset. Of course no one taught me, I just tried my best. Every class had to be completed, but this sewing class was a major hassle. I have no talent for this! My studies involve agriculture. I was stupid to pick what I thought was an easy A class. I should have picked floral arranging, closer to my anticipated degree. I guess you reap what you sow.

All Night
My grandson took me shopping today, the usual once a month trip. I didn’t feel like going because I haven’t been getting much sleep. This song came on the radio and he was singing along. It’s like it was written for me at this time. I loved it, made my day, so here it is! Hope it perks you up, too.
