Their love was never written about in books. They were enemies as far as anyone knew. Their lives came together in a moment of survival. What developed after that was a true miracle of nature.
It started when she was cub, wandering away from her mother, and was set upon by another cougar, a large male. He had been alone for too long, and was starving. He was watching the cub and decided she would suffice for a meal. The wolf was also watching from above. He was wary of the larger cougar, but his instincts were to protect the cub. A fight ensued and the older, weaker cougar was killed. The wolf was then aware the cub could not survive on her own, and from then on he protected her. Under his watchful eye, she grew fast, and being so young at their first meeting, her natural instincts were also subsided.
As she grew they depended on each other, hunting and feeding. This relationship blossomed into a dependency and a bond of love. There are no legends or love stories told about these two. In fact they may have been the only natural enemies that ended up being together for life.

When encountering majestic beauty
We feel as small and insignificant
As a droplet in the raging water.

Word Prompt: Memory
A memory I will share is my wedding day. It was the hottest day in July for many years. No air conditioning in those days, 1966. My mom and my aunt were making my wedding cake and it was beautiful, not overly done or fancy. I wore my bathing suit all morning I was so hot. My husband-to-be was picked up early by my sister and brother in law to dress at their house. My other sister helped me dress up in my bedroom. We all piled into my dad’s car and drove to the small church I attended. I remember I was hoping no one noticed my legs shaking as I walked down the aisle with my dad. Of course, their shaking at the altar was visible. Everything was like a dream of sorts. I didn’t really notice people in the pews, or even what we said. I was just wanting to be married to this man I loved and nothing else mattered. I had no issues as women do these days, with arrangements or dress fittings, flowers, venues, etc. Neither one of us even cared who was there, as long as we were.

Daily Prompt: Slur
I may be old
And sometimes bold
But it wouldn’t occur
To voice a slur
At anyone really.
I have to admit
I use words like sh–
Occasionally, if I’m hurt
Might even blurt
An occasional f—
If I fell in the muck.
But to call someone names
What is your aim?
You show up only yourself
Put those slurs on the shelf.
You’re in my mind
Sitting here eating my supper
I realize that you are upper
In my mind tonight
As if my appetite
For you could be disabled
My love no longer on the table
But your contact made me rethink
It’s as if you gave a wink
That you’re still out there
Sitting in your own lounge chair
With your sadness and the grief
You can turn to me for relief
I will listen with my heart
Don’t be afraid, just start.
Photo Challenge-A Good Match
100 Word Wednesday
As he drove up to the old cabin he was anxious with anticipation. He had been planning this for weeks. She took her time replying, but finally said yes two days ago. He had time to shop for all the necessary items, food, wine, candles, flowers. Perfection he thought, as he unpacked it all and set up the cabin. He started a fire and made sure there was plenty of wood brought in. Nothing should distract them. Meeting her again was a dream he planned, and this time he would not hesitate. He checked his pocket for the ring box.
WRITE ANYTHING WEDNESDAY#107
I woke up this morning
After a long doze
Looked to WP to find it had froze
It happens a lot
But given some thought
This is a problem to write
Try to post, try as I might!
It reads “all is fine”
This post of mine
So I post, I think, then look
Where has it gone, someone else’s nook?
I try to retrieve
You wouldn’t believe
My poetry/prose
Once again froze.
Prompt-19-Camping
Outdoor cold water showers
Picnic table strewn with flowers
Smoky clothes from evening fires
Boat dock trimmed with old tires
Marshmallows on a stick
Birds having crumbs to pick
Tired socks on a line
From a long day’s climb
Everyone sits about relaxing
Nothing done that was taxing
This is the fun of camping!

Picture Prompt-75

They stood on the shore and watched as their grandfather drifted up to Valhalla. His dream fulfilled. The ashes from the funeral pyre drifted back to them on the tide. This was the Viking way. Not sadness for his passing, but happiness that he received his reward in their heaven.
