Daily Prompt: Later

She said to the waiter

“Do you have gator?”

He replied “ma’am?

The ones that swam?”

“Of course you dolt

Is there another?”

He turned with a jolt

And fetched his brother

“Are you the owner?” said she

“Oh, were you meaning me?

Yes, madam I’m him.

We have nothing that swims

It’s strictly on the menu

Try a different venue.”

Disgusted he turned

While his brother soon learned

The owner was rude

Had a bad attitude.

“Ma’am, I’m trying to please,

So my conscious will ease

For you, I could cater.”

As she left, “Maybe later.

Not going to brood

But I’m in the mood

For some wild seafood.”

*alligator may be referred to as seafood, poetic license*๐Ÿ˜‚

Daily Prompt: ย Passport

It’s cold and it’s snowing again

This weather is a Wyoming trend.

Just when you think it’s safe to go out

And spring plants start to sprout

In comes the icy weather with clout

Is spring even coming? Raises a doubt.

This schedule of unpleasant events

Makes you discouraged and want to vent

So pack your bags, grab your passport

And buy tickets for Maui at the airport.

Stream of Consciousness Saturday- 4-01-17

Any family member who enjoys watching another member achieve, perform, and even fail at attempts, is a loving member.  Last night I wrote about a soccer game I attended where parents from the other team were rude and obnoxious.  Today our team played the best WY team from Gillette.  Everything was different.  Parents sat on the opposite side for visitors, not right behind us.  It was snowing and very cold.  Everyone acted with respect.  The score was three to one, and our guy, our star, picture on previous blog, made the one! Hallelujah!  Of course we are proud of him but it was no different last night when we were beaten, seven to zero.  A+ playing both nights.๐Ÿ˜

The Friday Reminder and Prompt for #SoCS Apr. 1/17

This is not a rant, well. . .

I had the great privilege of attending my seventeen year old grandson’s soccer game tonight.  It was freezing and of course there was that constant lovely breeze.  I was well prepared with big blanket on the chair, four layers of shirt, sweater, thick knee socks and what I call my big girl shoes.  I use these whenever I need thick knee highs to keep warm.  They have a nonslip tread also, good for snow.  Of course none of my shoes actually wear out and my feet don’t really feel them, so they don’t have to be high quality.  But I liked the look of these.  You get the idea, it was cold.  We had big scarves and blankets.  There were five of us.

We went up the three tiered ramp to the handicapped area.  My family sat on the benches next to me.  We saw our star doing everything he could to help the goalie keep the ball out of the net.  We have a great goalie, by the way.  Our star is a smaller wiry guy.  He’s played soccer for years and he is fast.  Most of the team was not very experienced but did their best.  Lost seven to zero. In an 80 minute game, at the last five minutes the other coach put in their second string and we just kept hoping for one goal, but no.

The other team was from Sheridan, WY, quite a ways away.  As the game went on we kept hearing loud guffaws, rude remarks, and every good move on the Sheridan team was loudly “appreciated”.   I said to my daughter that those kids are being obnoxious.  We weren’t that bad to be ridiculed.  The announcer told everyone before the game started that we should respect each other, etc.  They got louder and louder.

The worst was the arrogant attitude, mocking, etc from the other players.  We had  white uniforms, but younger and  smaller players.  When the other team has some tall guys with mustaches and beards, it makes you wonder. Every play it seemed our guy was surrounded by five big blue guys.  The referee gave a couple of penalty cards, kicked one guy off the field, and gave one a talking to on the field.  At these reprisals the crowd behind us became louder with their remarks.  My then feisty ten year old granddaughter who has played soccer since three, started cheering for our team, loudly.  I had to join in.  If our team was making a good play we shouted out great job, (name) etc. but we never criticized the Sheridan team.

However if I could I would have liked to use my big girl shoes to kick some butt!  Sorry, my grandmother is showing.  I did tell the fourteen year old the people behind us were —.   But I was getting angry when I found out they weren’t kids making that noise, they were the parents.  I couldn’t believe it!  Parents?  No wonder their team had obnoxious behavior.  They came by it naturally.

Here in Cheyenne, there are three major high schools.  Two are where the white, well to do kids go and our family goes to the third.  It’s a beautiful new school, but so are the kids.  There is disparity in the schools and it shows in nights like this. We only have three seasoned players on our team.  Tomorrow we play an even stronger team. I wonder what those parents will be like?  I also wonder if this attitude is going to prevail with our new leader and his attitudes and tweets!
This is our guy, #4, at a game last year.

Tale#113 – The Stable Boy

“It’s beautiful isn’t it?” James felt bad for his brother because Gregor had been in pain the entire journey, but actually seeing their destination perked him up. He had been badly hurt while serving as a stable boy in their small village. The trip was not a long one, but it was arduous. Walking together, with James along to protect him, Gregor was also happy to see the king’s residence in view. It certainly was beautiful, but since Gregor had met the king once before, he was not in awe as his brother. They had left their home before the sun rose, and expected to be back by evening.

In this part of the country there were few jobs available to the poorer population. Gregor was fortunate to have worked along side his father at their home. His experience was with farming horses, but at the stables he worked with a variety of well groomed animals. Some were for riding on a fox hunt, while others were for the ladies in their fancy velvet riding costumes. The ones Gregor loved the most were the racers. They were temperamental, but very beautiful.

Gregor just stumbled upon the job of stable boy when he and his father were going into the village for supplies. One of the king’s men was riding nearby when his horse startled and there was an accident. Gregor retrieved the horse and helped the rider. The king, observing from his carriage, asked the boy to come to him. He rewarded the boy with a job at the stables. This was a wonderful opportunity, because Gregor had the king’s favor, plus the learning experience with different types of horses.

He enjoyed working with all the horses, but the racers were the most dangerous. They were often nervous and skittish, and Gregor had to be careful. He was grooming his favorite, Black Beauty, when a rat ran by her hoof. Gregor, not seeing the rat, didn’t have time to react. The black sidestepped and Gregor found himself squeezed between her and the wall. It was quick, but an extremely painful injury. As a result, his older brother was taking him to the king’s physician.

King Daniel was not an ordinary ruler. He loved the entire kingdom, and was kept aware of any problems, especially of the people he had taken a special interest in. When he saw Gregor’s kindness, he immediately liked him. Hearing of his injury in his own stables, he sent for him immediately. The physician bandaged Gregor’s broken ribs after which the king requested to see the patient. Gregor and James were quite surprised by this invitation, but thoroughly enjoyed it. The two boys were then sent on their way back home, secure in thought that their ruler was a kind man and deserved their loyalty.

Natural Beauty Afield

Horses are one of the most beautiful animals in the world, and like people on earth, they come in different shapes, sizes, and colors. They have different jobs they do naturally, and others that they are trained for, just like people. They communicate, make friends, fight, love, and respect their parents. Like hard working citizens, they rarely take breaks, sometimes falling asleep standing up. They exercise, and eat a healthy diet consisting of natural ingredients. They only drink water, which is another tribute to a healthy lifestyle. As humans we don’t respect these creatures as much as we should.

100 Word Wednesday: Week 12

Daily Post: Fortune

The carnival tent was dark in hue

Sign read “I have fortunes for you”

Curious George and his sister Sue

Lifted the flap for a better view

“Can you do just one or maybe two?”

George asked the woman with hair of blue.

“Come in my dears” with a crackled coo

“Exactly what can I do for you?”

“Tell our fortunes, if that’s what you do”

George replied, not having a clue

They sat and watched as the cards flew

Flying down on the table as if they had glue

“I only tell what they say, just a few

Speak the truth involving you two.

But first I see there’s a payment due

Before I reveal what they’re telling you.”

Sue looked at George, George looked at Sue

They stood up and out the tent they blew.

Prompt-102 ย A Dream Come True

They were on the old bridge, admiring the ruins of a long forgotten castle, when they noticed a noise in front of them.  Water was surrounding the castle and as it flowed, the castle itself seemed to come alive before their eyes.

The bridge they were traveling on lengthened and the part nearest the castle became a drawbridge.  The castle rejuvenated into fresh stonework and the crumbling structure was gone.  The brown, dry grasses and trees became vibrant green and flowers sprung up in the field.

As this took place their clothes were mysteriously adapted to medieval attire.  They looked at each other in shocked admiration.  Both spoke in unison. “This is what I call a vacation!”
