D for dragon. Beliefs about dragons vary considerably through regions. Draconic creatures appear in virtually all cultures around the globe and the earliest attested reports of draconic creatures resemble snakes, because humans have an innate fear of snakes and other animals that were major predators of humans’ primate ancestors and often depicted as winged, horned, and capable of breathing fire. Dragons are usually said to reside in “dank caves, deep pools, wild mountain reaches, sea bottoms, haunted forests”—all places which would have been fraught with danger for early human ancestors.

Simply Six Minutes

***

My diet’s working, only berries from now on

It makes me less attractive and safer from the throng.

Always leering, looking, while I’m doing…anything

Those people in the park with their cameras on a string.

I’ve decided with the diet I will seem less visible

Therefore all the visitors will be less quizzable.

I shouldn’t blame them, I guess they are no threat

But we bears like privacy and it’s what we don’t get.

Every time I see one coming I hide behind this tree

Even then they snap and laugh as if they can see me.

Syd

Now that I’ve got you thinking about “lions and tigers and bears, oh my,” I would like to choose one (or more) of the following options to write your poem:
1) Choose any animal and consider its nature and write a poem about the animal;
2) Choose a particular attribute of an animal and write a poem that is about the animal but also an attribute that humans exhibit, similar to some of the above poems;
3) Create your own myth or fable involving animals. There are no form, rhyme, or subject constraints in this prompt challenge. All I ask is that you have fun with it!
Let me introduce you to Miss Sydney, aka Squid, or Syd. She is 112 years old this week, in dog years, and is the sole/soul companion of my eldest granddaughter who is medical residency in Pennsylvania. Syd came to our family via Animal House in Fort Collins, Colorado. She is a sweet old lady and her face and legs are continually turning whiter. She is a Sheba Schipperke mix, great personality. Her only fault is she will consume any food left within reach. But hey, being 112, who can blame her?😊❤️

dVerse Poets Quadrille

Helloooo, fabulous springtime wordsmiths! De Jackson (aka WhimsyGizmo) here, and it’s time for the Quadrille! This pithy little poem is a work of our own invention here at dVerse: simply a poem of 44 words, not counting the title, and including one word we provide for you. Those are the only rules. Rhyme or don’t rhyme, write in quatrains or freeform, stack those words all up in a tight little bundle or spread them across the page in nice long lines. Those choices are yours. So long as your poem is exactly 44 words and our assigned word is there, we’re happy campers. Today, I’d like us to play with the word ZOOM.

Hates housework, every chore
Now with kids, always more
Dusting, vacuum, mop, repeat
And don’t forget the toilet seat..
Every zoom(ing) finger smudge
That never let a napkin budge
From a perfect table, reaching
Spilling drinks while dad is preaching
“God, give me serenity”.

MLMM Wordle #316

The entire neighborhood wanted to celebrate and demonstrate the beauty of their community garden. Even neutral minded people, unsure of the sustainable benefit, joined in to help transform a previously unused, unsightly block of land into a beloved space. To encourage participation, a few local businesses supplied basic seeds and tools to the startup. A blend of vegetables and flowers made the space both practical and attractive. Showers of praise were heard as the garden grew and supplied a more varied menu for some of the disadvantaged neighbors.
