Daily Prompt:  Parlay

I was going to write something about this Prompt, but an article in the local news got my attention instead. An elderly man was shoved onto the pavement by a younger man when the younger man parked in a handicapped spot. This happened one half mile from my home, and at the Safeway grocery store where I shop. I used to go there by myself when I had the scooter. It’s where I fell off that scooter onto the same paved parking lot. A construction worker came right over to help put me back on the scooter, was very concerned that I was okay. As a matter of fact I broke a bone that connects your leg to your hip and ended up in the hospital for a week and rehab for a over a week. That’s another story.

My point is that before I had the scooter, I used a cane. The kids and I used to joke about bad behavior would lead to “the cane treatment”. Of course it was only a joke. But I think now it might be wise to add the cane to my wheelchair. If I had been that elderly person, I could have defended myself with the cane. It may seem comical, like an old cartoon show. But an able bodied person pushing down an elderly man because he was spoken to about parking in a handicapped spot is not right. This (jerk) is being sought by the Wyoming police.

I guess from now on I’ll have to hitch a ride with my grandson to the store. He’s wiry, but strong and I would parlay he would be a great defender if I needed it.

  1. My mother keeps saying she’d ride her scooter to the market if they had sidewalks in her town. Just as well they don’t. She’s fallen off that scooter too many times for comfort. xoxoM
