Joe walked into the birthday/anniversary party, a bonus because they were married on her birthday. A celebration was indicated by all the balloons, even a banner with happy words displayed on it. Many ribbons, cards and even candles were displayed to enhance the atmosphere. In the center of the presents, a tall cake was dripping frosting from the candles. Joe, with his usual take on anything celebratory, grabbed his reluctant wife and started dancing wildly. Apparently Joe had already done some celebrating.

It’s easy to go to the park, have a bountiful lunch, play on the fields, and not think of the people who made this day important. The first Labor Day was September 5, 1882, in NYC. And in 1884, congress declared the first Monday in September to be an official holiday. Only a few reasons for this day below.

Lunch atop a Skyscraper is a black-and-white photograph taken on September 20, 1932, of eleven ironworkers sitting on a steel beam of the RCA Building, 850 feet (260 meters) above the ground during the construction of Rockefeller Center in Manhattan, New York City. It was a staged photograph arranged as a publicity stunt, part of a campaign promoting the skyscraper.

“What do ya have in the sack?”

“Uh, what sack” as he shifted his bag under his backpack.

“The one you’re hiding, bud!”

“I have a surprise for Patty.”

“Patty, what happened to that girl with the long blonde braids?” He grabbed the sack and opened it up, and got a shocked sick look on his face, seeing two blonde braids.

I decided to reread an Andrew’s and Wilson book, “American Operator”. It’s one in a series which I’ve read before. In between serious books I listen to my favorite character, Joe Ledger in a series by Jonathan Maberry. I’ll add here another favorite “Project Hail Mary” by Andy Weir who wrote “The Martian”. I don’t hear much about it but it is very enjoyable. I also read “Artemis”, but didn’t care for it as much. These books are narrated by Ray Porter, my favorite narrator. That’s all for this week, thanks!

Their farm was on the fringe of a prairie expanse they had yet to plant. It would have been a shame to start anything this fall when they first arrived. They did a strip of field corn for the chickens mostly, and that spot did pretty well. The prairie was near the peaks of the Rocky Mountain range and it warmed their hearts to see the ruby orb linger over them at sunset. There was no need to rush at this time of year and they had faith they would survive the winter on the goods they already stored. The roosting chickens however, did not all survive because the small family ‘s favorite dish was chicken, and thought it couldn’t be beat!
