A toast to toast, that’s right, a drink to celebrate one of the most friendly, approachable food items that everyone enjoys! My current favorite is raisin cinnamon bread toasted. It’s homey, satisfying, and easy to prepare. It can be topped with butter, cream cheese, anything really! Rye toast another favorite especially when the edges have curled up in the toaster to hold butter…probably shouldn’t dwell on that too much, but I was raised on good old dairy milk butter and in my opinion, margarine does not compare. So grab a cup and toast toast!

Sammiscribbles Weekend Writing Prompt

I hate to be insolent
This buffet hardly cromulent
The meat is so strange
From a home on the range
It’s supposed to be steak, but too rare
I’ve had better, but rude to compare
I’ll stick with the mashed
Since I already paid cash.

Weekend Writing Prompt #431 – Cromulent

dVerse Poets

Today I’d like you to write about noise of any kind. There are many ways you can approach the theme. It is up to you but here are a few ideas:

What do you consider to be noise pollution? Is there a buried emotion screaming to be heard? What noises give you joy? Sorrow? Bring us the noises of nature or a noise you find most irritating. Maybe there’s a sound of nature that you find irritating. I won’t judge! Fill your poem with noise to paint us a picture of an event. Use noise metaphorically to express turmoil or unease, whether internal or external. You can play with onomatopoeia in your poem if you’d like but it is not required.

Now go find a quiet place and pen us a poem about noise.

Here’s how to join in:

  • Write a poem of any style in response to the prompt. Post it to your blog.
  • Click on Mr. Linky and add the direct URL and your name.
  • Add a link to dVerse so that others can find us.
  • Read and comment on the work of others.
  • Pop into the pub to comment or say hello! We are friendly folk.

noises disappear

drowned out by my dreamer’s thoughts

easy rests my mind

escaping into the dream

daily irritation fades

“Unfair work hours!” “No vacation time!” “No pay increases!” “Too much sugar in the beans!” All valid complaints as the workers were on strike at the jellybean factory. “We want more flavors and more colors!” Even their children got involved, holding up their little crayon pictures of their favorite beans.

“This is the worst part of my job”, voiced Charlie. “Everyone has a big old time partying, dancing, and drinking, and this is what’s left of it all. Sunday mornings here at the resort I thought would be an easy task, and I could do some beach and surf time. Cleaning up after these absolute slobs, I mean look at it! Doesn’t anyone know how to use a trash can anymore?” Charlie was venting to his girlfriend who was helping him clean up. They mistakenly thought this was going to be a great summer job.
