Eugi’s Weekly Prompt – Fairy

To live as a fairy would be such delight

Hiding in the sunshine, coming out at night

Sitting on a petal or riding on a leaf

Fairy life is an adventure, but all too brief

Visible to children whose view is not construed

Such innocence is why only they can view

The slightest movement of a fairy’s wings

Because in a child’s mind, imagination sings.

What do you See? 8-10-20

Underneath the glitter and the paint, all a ruse to hide what is or ain’t, you’ll never see the real, the one who stays hidden, all the reasons and of travels that were ridden, none of what matters to you or anyone, revealed out loud or ever felt in unison, under all the colors, all of all remains unseen.

Word of the Day: Trust

“Trust me, I know what’s best for you”, I must have heard it a million times. And of course, I did trust them, it, her or him. It was only after realizing the ones in authoritarian positions oftentimes don’t know what the hell they’re talking about. I am mostly referring to doctors here.

I think my growing up in a household where you did what you were told without asking why is to blame. “Just do it” or “because I said so” tends to catch up with you as a parent, so that’s probably another reason why they were adamant.

As a child, I trusted everything–stray animals, eating berries that looked delicious but made you sick, climbing onto that small branch on the tree, knowing sure, I can ride a bike, horse, etc, the water isn’t deep here, dangling on an old rope swing–all lessons in life. It was going out of my little corner into high school where my first mental hurt occurred. A seemingly best friend stole something of mine and that was when I became aware not everyone is trustworthy.

Still, even at the age of 73, I trust maybe more than I should. My daughter would then look at me and say, what? It makes me laugh because also at my age I don’t have much to lose. Besides, I need to keep her on her toes!😃

Fandango’s Dog Days of August #10

Which do you choose?

I suppose you all think I’m crazy

No way a holiday on the beach being lazy

Is my idea of fun.

Running and jumping in waves is delightful

Snorkeling where fierce fish swim is just frightful

That is not for this one.

Sand gets in your lunch so it’s inedible

Sand up your swimsuit always inevitable

Asking again, is this fun?

Give me the mountains, cool and crisp

Where icy breath causes a lisp

My idea of a vacation wish.

Trees and grass and cold running streams

Rippling over rocks and rainbow trout seen

Fried up on a campfire, a tasty dish.

Later s’mores fudge filled graham treat

Made at the campfire all messy and sweet

Is my idea of making life rich.

MLMM Sunday Writing Prompt – Choosing Context

He noted the situation had become grim/concerning/chucklesome.

***

Not everyone enjoys a good joke as well as Joshua Pigbottom. In fact many late afternoons in the local pub brought gales of laughter for some and disgusting comments from others. Nevertheless, that didn’t stop Joshua from espousing every worn out comic reference till the lateness of the day sent most listeners home for supper.

Mr. Pigbottom was not that lucky. In fact the only “family” he had was the group of pub customers that gathered every afternoon. One neighbor only, Charlie, had tried to befriend Joshua, realizing his evening lights stayed on till morning, and his garden terribly overgrown. The neighbor had knocked on Joshua’s door many times receiving no answer. He noted the situation had become grim.

The neighbor’s day began after Joshua left for work. Charlie started trimming the grass, pulling weeds, and even planted a few bright flowers near Joshua’s entry door. As the day wore on, Charlie could hardly wait to see Joshua‘s reaction when he came home. He peeked out of his curtains to see Mr. Pigbottom turn into his yard.

Suddenly Joshua stopped still, observing the garden, and looked around to see if he was in the right place. Charlie was laughing behind his hiding place and then was surprised to see Joshua retrieve a handkerchief from his back pocket. As he dabbed his tears, Charlie came out of his home, went up to Joshua, and introduced himself.

Sunday Photo Fiction 8-9-20

***

Everything looked beautiful as she walked into the small street. “Everyone takes such lovely care of the area here,” she offered to no one, and kept walking. At the opposite end of the street she could see another person, possibly a tourist or student. Eyes down turned to their cell phone, as most people do these days. She thought he must be used to this beauty, never glancing up, even as she passed by. She wondered if he took it for granted–the colors and flowers surround and as she stepped into the cafe, glanced back and smiled.

Ballerina

Shifting her books to the backpack from her bed was a Wednesday chore. The classes on Wednesdays each required a textbook, and because there were no lockers, all had to be carried at once. The heaviness caused her to bend forward more than she naturally would, but she preferred to think of it as a really long stretch.

Maria had been dancing since she was able to walk. The daily sight of her twirling in the yard, flying over rocks and landing delicately in the grass was normal–all to meet the basic ballet standards required to move into more challenging classes. She never seemed to run out of gas and never complained of being sore from her efforts to improve. It was no surprise to see her accepted into a famous troupe, basking in the flash of concert lights and cameras.
