Tuesday Writing Prompt – 12-29-20

The end and beginning, my feelings in a phrase so easy to say and so hard to live. Death of a loved one, closer than anyone could be, is a devastating end, no matter what came before.

Beginning a new life carries with it memories, sad or pleasant, good and bad. We all have them but when it involves your closest relationship, it also comes with regrets.

It was a ridiculous hope that one swift swing of his club would win the tournament. But his influence had worked so far, and accepted flat out that he indeed was king, at least in his own mind and a few sycophant followers.

Everyone was glued to their screens at home, as he took the club from his caddie. The swing done, the ball landed on a tv satellite dish, as the golfer was shocked to have the world see his error.

Of course he loudly blamed his caddie of giving him the wrong club on purpose to make him look bad. The caddie merely uttered “oops” as he retreated with a sneaky smile.

RDP- what’s next?

While corporations and business people eat their tax paid for lunches, increase their already overblown profits, ordinary small businesses are dropping like flies.

Home mortgages are foreclosed and people can’t afford the price gauged prices of food for their tables.

These congresspeople don’t worry about that, they are “sitting pretty” once elected.

That’s what next. Our government should be ashamed.

The bundle of herbs was tossed into the cauldron with haste as Matilda was afraid of approaching demons. She had been a good witch all of her life, and never made harmful spells, much to the dismay of their wishes.

She pulled her arms around tighter as the brumal wind whipped at her cloak. She glanced back at the small lean-to where she stayed temporarily. Stoking the glowing firewood helped dispel the dreary night, but it would take an hour more for the herbs to make her safe once again. Matilda retired to the shelter for a cup of chamomile tea while waiting.

Monday Media

If you’ve never checked out what your local PBS station offers, please do. With or without a passport which costs five dollars a month or sixty for a year, it opens many series to watch and enjoy. A new version of “All Creatures Great and Small” is starting. One thing you’ll find in these series is acceptable language and sensual situations. I like all forms of entertainment, and have enjoyed all of their series, especially Masterpiece.

Tragedy

Words failed me as I stared at the body. It was my usual Sunday trip up to Yukon trail. I had changed the date to Monday since Christmas vacation allowed me to take my kids. Because of social distancing, the week day seemed a good choice.

It was so cold it seemed the still body was just laying there, resting, instead of instantly being afraid of her. I hustled the kids to sit away, next to a tree. I was tempted to say everything would be all right, but I’m sure they would know better.

It was late afternoon before we heard the FBI helicopter fly in to do a forensics search. The kids and I will forever remember that Christmas tragedy.
