First Lines Friday

“Sometimes you have to do something crazy in order to stay sane. This is what I’m telling myself, because I’m on the fire escape, blindfolded, feeling my way up to the roof. Before tonight I would have said I could do this in my sleep. Em and I have climbed out my window and gone to the roof a thousand times. But the blindfold changes everything. I adjust my grip on the railing. Inch forward on the rough iron strips from one side of steps to the next.”

“A Flicker in the Clarity” by Amy McNamara is a young adult selection. It was given to me by my 14 year old granddaughter. I started reading and couldn’t put it down. I researched the author and found this might be a sequel to her 2012 book, “Lovely, Dark and Deep”.

Fandango’s Friday Flashback- 1-1-21

MLMM Tale Weaver 153 – Perspective

It’s a new year, and maybe a time for a new look, a new perspective. The dragonfly, a symbol of change throughout the world, is depicted here. If you look very closely, you will see the detail in sections of the body, the different colors, the two sets of amazing wings that can each move independently, with added ability to fly at speeds of 18 miles per hour, a sensory radar built in to determine their prey’s direction, making them able to intercept with accuracy. They also have endurance, as one species flew 11,000 miles over the ocean gaining the title of the world’s longest insect migration. They can fly sideways, backwards and hover.

“A study of 12 dragonfly species has found that each one has no fewer than 11, and some a whopping 30, different visual opsins.”

Their ability and agileness makes them often referred to as the “stealth bomber” of the insect world.

For more information, check out mmn.com the Mother Nature Network.

I titled this “tale” Perspective because when you observe something, or someone, even as quick as a beautiful dragonfly, you really have no idea what they’re about.

Fandango’s Flashback Friday — January 1

Rant 😏

Auld lang syne

What a whine

With your old year line

We don’t want those memories

All the deaths not necessary

While in his ivory tower

Sits a culprit who never cowers

No apologies to families

He just smiles and lies with ease

A face I’d like to never see

Planted in each news feed

Tolls of the new year’s bell

Too many sad tales to tell

They ring in hope, we all say that

Watching our country’s old fat cat

Father time you’re much too late

As graves pile up at horrid rates

Followers of this dictator

Will all be sorry later.

New Year’s Resolution

I need a certain steel mill

Not the ordinary type

One that caters to a fantasy

To dispel all painful hype

I have these certain feelings, disguised them as a wish

I need them to multiply like petri in a dish

I thought if I coated them, tried to galvanize

Then they’d last forever–I would be so wise

I hope they’d be much stronger, unfettered to become

Reality and seal together all the world as one.
