Carrot Ranch Flash Fiction – Frozen

Frozen food, the worst of online grocery shopping experiences, with my often hitting the wrong letter when trying to order something and end up with frozen entrails instead of frozen entrees. All this online shopping is not user friendly to people in frozen climates where a computer, tablet or horrid phone keyboard requires warm usable non arthritic fingers. I suppose at my age I should just get one of those huge keyboard senior phones, but I digress. It is up to the actual shopper, (egads) to check freshness dates, that it’s not squashed, partially opened or unappetizing looking.

Sammiscribbles Weekend Writing Prompt 2-27-21

He was going to be Joe college all the way, as he stepped onto the campus of Bonkers University in the republic of Texas. According to their brochure everything that ever was made, designed, or created came from Texas. Joe wanted in on that history and hoped to learn all from attending this college. His first stop was the student union to buy some BU kitsch and logo tshirt.

MLMM Saturday Mix – Chocolate

***

Once was a clown who’s name was Poppit

Kept children all happy with chocolate

His mistake on the day

Was too hot, he dismayed

The treats all melted in his pocket.

I’ve always thought limericks were 88558, so found it odd to do this.

Bored Ramble

Waking from a long slumber, found 25F degrees, snowing, furnace roaring, coffee being sipped and thinking of what I can make for a meal with chicken breast or put something in my grocery order that will microwave quickly.

My meager appetite doesn’t require much because of lack of exercise, and I only require a late afternoon meal. Or I might just use my grub hub free coupon to order Mexican food but the restaurant I like does not deliver, so probably not. They say free delivery but the driver should receive a lagniappe for his efforts of course.

I have declared a moratorium on baking cookies, cakes, etc because it’s only me here and it is too handy. I crave things but am never really hungry. The lockdown and winter weather has already prevented most exercise so it’s a must, otherwise I could be rolled out the door without the wheelchair.

It’s time to put in the grocery order hoping I get decent potatoes this time instead of the monstrous sweets in last order. The things I can always count on are apples, grapes, tomatoes and cabbage. Other fresh produce is hit and miss. It all depends on the shopper🙄.

MLMM First Line Friday 2-26-21

The rose bushes lay a siege with velveteen petals and curved thorns. This is how he thought of her, sweet fragrance beguiling, inviting with her incomparable beauty, soft skin and curving lips. His heart was instantly attracted, but his mind knew the truth.

Book Spine Poetry(2)

I had a blast doing this last time but I don’t go to the library by myself, so rare. We all usually go when school is out in the summer.

It was just A song of fire and ice, but this was no Enders game. Oh no, they were serious! After The day the earth stood still, in 1984, The princess bride, Neuromancer, and The watchmen all got together and decided a fire of Fahrenheit 451 was dangerous, and not be to be taken lightly. The Brave new world‘s Foundation trilogy decided action had to be taken. The American gods were not to have total control. Even the residents of Animal farm agreed, in their own way. Of course they were aware of Slaughterhouse five, so their meetings were secret. One of them brought up an odd question at the meeting:Do androids dream of electric sheep? That brought the house down and the relief of laughter.

A clockwork orange rang out a warning to the meeting participants, “Starship troopers on the way! The Watership is down, the Mists of Avalon are coming, The left hand of darkness is upon us and The moon is a harsh mistress! The war of the worlds is starting, it might be wise to use The time machine.”

The silmarillio, The once and future king, started speaking over the uneasy gathering,”this Childhoods end – Neverwhere have I seen such chaos. This was only a fire, and it has been controlled. There is no need for troopers or panic. It’s not like Shrike from The Hyperion cantos is coming! It’s not World war Z! The last unicorn still lives. Settle down, treat yourself to a copy of The chronicles of Thomas covenant, the unbeliever. No need to be Going postal! The road is written, my friends, have faith.

Word of the Day: Halcyon

Chris’ post https://lunasonline.wordpress.com/ talking about the Liver building and the Mersey River took me back to the halcyon days of 1965 where I peacefully listened to Gerry and the Pacemakers album in my third floor apartment in an empty room except for a record player. “Ferry Cross the Mersey” was their biggest hit but most of their songs were relaxing listening.
