βGet your headlines here! Get the daily news, only fifty cents for all the news thatβs fit to print!β Joey liked the Sunday morning chant because the price was doubled on Sundays, twice the daily that was a quarter. The tips were larger, too. They were bigger and heavier, but after three years of barking newspapers, his arm could hold the Sunday special editions at least thirty minutes.
Pin it on me, I can take it, yes that’s the one, the big one with the crazy old lady’s picture on it, with a bad word under it in caps–yup, a good likeness don’t you think? It took a while, you know, makeup and all that, hair done to look presentable. . .oh by the way, they wouldn’t let me wear my Womanist t-shirt for the photo–nazis, all of them! And the wheelchair was cropped, guess they don’t want anyone thinking I’m disabled, ha! Little do they know, the brain speaks! Yes, step up, I don’t mind. Take a few for your friends! Everyone needs a pin!
Arms going numb, I struggle to grab a tissue to wipe the sweat from my face. It was only a few minutes into labor and I fear more pain is coming. It seems my body is not under my control and even my birthing classes now seem a distant effort to withstand this ordeal. I will, I have done it before and the results are worth it. I try to keep this in mind, as I breathe short sharp breaths.
First I have to thank ceenphotography.com for all of her hard work on this Share Your World section of WP. I think everyone enjoys it and appreciates the time she has put into it along with all of the other challenges she has. So we’ll miss you, but keep in touch!
Also, a hearty welcome to the new lady in charge: sparksfromacumbustiblemind.com. I love the new colors on the badge! Thank you for accepting the challenge and taking on this responsibility.
1. I tell my grandchildren a lot of stories about growing up a million years ago, on a dairy farm, our family life then and my life with their grandfather and their mom as she grew up. Of course I also tell it like it is, maybe too much?
2. I can’t really think of anything except my first “real” job. Starting out as a clerk and ending up as a secretary to a large group of scientists. The first part was a clerk in a small room with two middle aged good old boys who did their best to embarrass me every day. The next job in the same building but a different section, was great, treated with dignity and respect.
3. This question is funny. Probably I would say, thinking I am funny.
4. Maybe the worst thing I could overhear while going under for surgery would be, “you got this. . .right?”
It doesn’t take long, in fact it is incredibly fast. You don’t realize it of course until you are sitting by yourself, only seeing your life in fading photographs, but it is a journey all the same.
Children wishing for something exciting, something new, to be older, to be what books promise, living a life with happiness complete. That would have been possibly a pleasant journey, but boring to look back on–for some, some like me who dreamed as a child and imagined an exciting journey.
Would I be Nancy Drew or one of the Hardy Boys’ friends, solving great mysteries? Would I be a teller of tall tales or turn into a mermaid when I dipped my toes into the sea? My favorite dreams of course, were imagined as I watched the Disney castle light up on our small tv. I wished to be one of those girls who ended up a princess with my very own prince.
Then life happens, and the imagined journey turns into reality and even though the journey is interesting and good, it is not what I fantasized.
