He sat on the heavy branch, seeking orientation, as his eyesight was beginning to grow dim. He watched carefully before his flight, the integrity of his vision wavering. Then as if something bizarre occurred he saw movement. The ground squirrels were running to a new burrow.

This week’s Story Starter teaser is:
We drove into my driveway and found my beyond angry dad standing in the way, hands on hips. That gesture was always a warning.
It was New Year’s Eve and we had been to an ice skating party at a friend’s. The snow had been coming down and just starting to dissipate as we drove in. Admittedly I was arriving home late, two hours late and no attempt at an explanation was allowed.
My dad grabbed me out of the car, took the skates and slammed them down on the hood of my boyfriend’s pride and joy. I winced thinking I’d probably never see him again! I went into the house to see my friend and her mom and my mom all staring at me like I had committed a crime. (There is a secret around this that’s not mine to tell).
My mom said to me something I will never, ever forget, “I’d rather you were over a snowbank dead from an accident than seeing you with him!” Rather see me dead? I was incredulous.

Charlie was my uncle. I only found this out a few years ago. My father’s little brother died at the age of six. He never talked about him and I don’t know how or why he passed away. It must have been too painful for my dad to talk about. I would have liked to know about him, but it’s too late now. Rest in peace, Charlie.

oh blue,
you are my fave—royal, sky, or sea I crave
with red and white it ever waves, of such colors I may rave
it seems they calm my soul to save the
true blue

This is one of the descriptions I found on the Cinquain form:
Cinquain poems are just five lines long, with only a few words on each line, making them easy to write. The first and last lines have just two syllables, while the middle lines have more, so they end up with a diamond-like shape, similar to the poetic form called the diamante.

“Now why would you say that”, he turned so she couldn’t see his smile.
“Because you know it’s true, you just let the guys you work with influence you!”
“Vaccinations are for sissies”, as he keeps turned away.
“It’s not funny, it’s serious! I’m worried about you!”
He turns and holds her close. “I was vaccinated last week. I was just joshing you.”
“NOT funny!” She stomps off.

Daily Prompt – JusJoJan the 31st, 2022

Dust stirred up as the family truck skidded to a stop in front of the house. No sign of his honey hued skin and long black hair was visible to them but they knew he had been there.
No books could satisfy the animal hunger their daughter experienced, no movie or television program could do it. When dark clouds and chilled wind blew the silky fronds of the broken milk pods, they knew he would be leaving his lair to come to her again.
They should have checked the weather before they left for town. They rushed in, hoped they were not too late.

Taking new steps was never a problem for my brother. He would buck up, square his shoulders and head off to any challenge. I was the shy, unsure one in the family. If my brother stood by my side in a new venture I was okay, otherwise I would just stay home.
It was my sixteenth birthday and my high school prom was just around the corner. I had no intention of going, or even being asked to go. That ended along with a bit of my trepidation when my brother introduced me to his basketball teammate, Joe. I practically swooned when he asked me to go to the dance with him. I mumbled a yes and that step led to more steps until I had some confidence under my belt.

There’s no way to prepare for the hawk majority when approaching an important voting quandary. There’s no consolation prize if your “side” loses. Without some ethereal intervention, you’re lucky to have your view of the matter even heard.

I walked up to the full length mirror again, tried that saunter I’ve seen Jack use. How does he do it? The girls practically line up to watch him stroll into class!
Okay, Joe, you can do this. Slouch, and make sure your jeans stay tight in all the right spots.
