Simply Six Minutes

***

A beautiful young girl contemplates the world around her, as if she could hold all of us in her hands, as if it might be that easy to do, to unite us with love in every being. She would often dream of herself like this, a dream all of us would prefer to have. If it were possible, what would I choose myself, for every person’s future? Or for the earth itself? A monumental task I think, and one that might possibly be accomplished if indeed we were all one people. I think I would be dismayed, even though unity would be my goal.

Life, freedom, rights, oh my

The Sunday Whirl

I wonder if they have screams, as I sliced into the plant I’m cleaning from the garden; almost hearing my mothers voice, “it’s important to eat your greens”, so of course I did.

I must have heard my mother’s voice even when safe in her womb, a rarely fertilized set of eggs waiting every few years to be useful. I wonder if she ever thought the burns of her flesh, the blood, even the love, was worth it. I thought it was when I bore my own children, but I’m not sure of her thoughts.

I walked back out to the garden and chose a rose, thoughtlessly picking petals off and tossing them to travel downstream in the water from the garden hose. Thoughts of my mother and her pain at the end are the pins that prick me from time to time, never able to forget.

It’s not surprising in today’s world to read, see or hear things you hope not to. You only have to open your eyes or ears in any type of media or shop or even a children’s library to be struck by something repugnant. This is her thinking and why she stays home by herself most of the time, beginning a few years ago when uncaring people were passing physical and mentally harmful viruses. Her family is her respite. Her home is her sanctuary. Her body is safe there, but her mind still feels the strike.

The sale of women’s rights is now visible in the public eye. You may reel at the thought but the Supreme Court has fixed its sail to travel to the edge of what they must think is the edge of this flat planet. The real people who have brains and thoughts and feelings of love for their fellow man will suffer these consequences. What is next on their list is something we should be thinking of now—even though it seems all rational minds are quelled.
