Tuesday Writing Prompt Challenge

Todays prompt: Write a poem using the words “control” and “undermined”.

***I changed the rules and wrote my own true story.

When did I lose control is a question people might ask after experiencing a life changing event. I know I did. Having three major events in two years brought my life into clear focus. I think before I had been undermined by contentment even though nothing was ever perfect, I was happy and settled. I am an organized person. I like things “settled”. Upending events in 2013-2015 showed me something different. Now almost ten years later I feel settled again. Whew!

Fox producer’s warning against Jeanine Pirro surfaces in Dominion defamation suit September 6, 20225:00 AM ET

“The producer warned: Fox cannot let host Jeanine Pirro back on the air. She is pulling conspiracy theories from dark corners of the Web to justify then-President Donald Trump’s lies that the election had been stolen from him. The existence of the email, confirmed by two people with direct knowledge of it, is first publicly disclosed by NPR in this story. Fox News declined comment.
Pirro was far from alone in broadcasting such false claims. In the weeks that followed Election Day 2020, other prominent Fox stars, commentators and their guests heavily promoted them.”

Finally! Fox (news) people will be held accountable.

3TC – The Dance

Your three words today are:
DRESS
SKIRT
SHIRT

Shopping for the perfect dress

Supposed to match his shirt

Caused the girl a lot of stress

And what about length of skirt?

Long or short, certainly no mini

She wanted to impress, maybe win it

King and queen of a high school dance

At least she wanted a small chance

So in the end she picked a frock

Even the principal couldn’t mock

The boy, the girl, danced on and on

Not caring they had not won.

Told by a Curious Cat

No one knew what was behind that taped door, the door with what looked like police caution tape. Surely it was taped up and closed because it held some secret evidence they hadn’t yet discovered or it was a huge bloody mess? Well that’s just ridiculous. If there had been a crime or a murder, there would have been screaming, especially in a library where everyone is always extremely quiet or at least asked to be? So what could it be? What could be behind the caution taped door?

I’ve always been a curious person…sometimes to my own detriment. But this was a true happening right here in front of me, a mystery I felt I had to solve. If there had been a murder, I want to know about it. I want to know who it was, in the library and maybe the “body” is still here? All the regular people who attend the library are present, so who could it have been?

All these are perfectly normal questions but then I think, hmmm, there was this one mysterious man who came in to borrow one of Agatha Christie’s novels the other day. Oh I can’t really remember the title but maybe it had to do with committing a murder; well most of her books do!

I’m going to look through the card catalog and see if I see a strange new name or a recently filled out card. Yep, I am on the prowl.

Fandango’s Story Starter

This week’s Story Starter teaser is: TODAY SHE WOULD FIND OUT IF HER ENTIRE LIFE WAS A LIE.

Not only a lie but a surprising one at that. Her three sisters and two brothers all sat around her in the lawyer’s office. There had never been any camaraderie between the six of them since her father passed away when she was eight years old.

Sniping looks prevalent and the atmosphere was dour. As the portly lawyer settled in his oversized office chair and leaned back surveying his audience, he finally pushed his glasses up and began reading the will.

“To my hateful children I leave absolutely zero, nothing, nothing at all. My entire fortune and belongings will be donated to the Save the Apes Foundation of which I am fond. Those unloved creatures will be able to live and enjoy my mansion and beautiful gardens as long as they live and procreate, with a caretaker and on-site veterinarian, provided by me, of course.”

Then the real truth came out about her mother’s beliefs that we were all created from apes and this was going to be her legacy. She and her brothers and sisters were all brought up mostly by her dad in a strict religious environment and this was a shock to them all.

Labor of Love

She looked intently at the man
A smile spread when she took his hand
Tears dribbled down his wrinkled face
She offered a soft cloth edged with lace
Nursing homes too busy for his quiet voice
Her frequent visits calmed him, her loving choice
