A scowl spread across her ivory face, surveying the shoreline, hoping it would not be another day of unbearable summer heat. The lavish sand however, transpired an ethereal mirage as the waves refflected more of the sun’s wrath. The clouds played cagey, always hiding on the edges, until later when they would show themselves in an afternoon thunderstorm. The brief lightning would stalk the beach with brittle flashes only to be waylaid once more by another beautiful sunset.

Hallucinations
She watched in amazement as the shapeshifter displayed its multiforms, first an ant, a bee, and then a bird that flew to a tall branch. It seemed to foist itself out and upward showing luminous wings in various shades of red white and blue. When I looked closer I could see a tiny gold ring above its head. It couldn’t be…could it? A stylized bird form to commemorate the queen? I shook my head…shouldn’t have had that fourth glass of wine at lunch.
