Huck ran ahead, seemingly disturbed as he would stop and listen, stop and listen. Sue wasn’t worried because he was with her; she had her backpack and phone and he would help her if needed.
Sue had been delayed about a mile back because of a huge car accident that covered the road. She and Huck tried to hurry by, not wanting to see anything.
Now she listened, too, also hearing a noise on her right side, what Hulk must be listening to. Suddenly a man stepped out, covered with blood and limping badly. “Can you help me?” He asked her but then took a long glance at the dog. Hulk started to growl. Sue decided not to help and told Hulk to run and she pedaled away fast. The man did not follow.
The next day the newspaper reported that “a man caused a fatal accident and ran away. The police have not found him yet.”
It was a sleepless night as Sue locked everything up and settled in with Hulk.

For today’s Haibun Monday, you are invited to create a haibun about September and a special moment you experienced during this month or are looking forward to.
The prose can be narrative, lyrical or terse and the ku can be either a three-line haiku or a monoku (haiku in a single line). You can have alternating blocks of prose and verse, as long as the total word count does not exceed 250 words.

A birthday month for me, I can still smell scents of school days on the breeze and memories flood of autumn leaves and beginning again.
September leaves fall
familiar flavors blossom
renewed energy to task

Welcome back Melanie!👋🏻👋🏻👋🏻
Would you rather have no nose, or no arms? (apologies to Fandango, who is olfactory challenged).. um, neither
What is your spirit animal? I have two, dragonfly and wolf
Do you think cavemen had nightmares about cavewomen? They probably rarely slept at all.
Where did the name Pina Colada come from? The two words mean strained pineapple in Spanish and it is a tropical drink “invented in Puerto Rico! The sweet mix of coconut cream, pineapple juice, white rum, and ice was born in San Juan.” I haven’t had one in years😔
How thankful are you for good health, should you enjoy such a state of being? Actually I’ve had a bad reaction to Prednisone this week but usually I am perfectly fine and so very grateful for it. Little setbacks I try to infuse with humor, that always helps!
Glad to see you back at it, Melanie🥰

I can hear my mother now, as I remember “no absolutely not, no dirty mushrooms in my kitchen!”. Well I admit that was the key to how I felt when Joe brought home some amber beauties from his camping trip. Joe and I were opposite minded about many things but I flicked the solid mass of fungi into the trash bin. He looked at me like I’d scarred him! He carefully retrieved the mass of mushrooms and cleaned them and added some beef broth to let them simmer in the liquid. He then peeled potatoes, boiled and mashed them and made a gravy with the mushroom concoction. It was delicious.”

“Who are we to judge?” Spoken facetiously by the always judgmental brothers who do not deserve to be hard on marriage. As they remain strife free, travel around the world in their Ferraris or whatever suits them, only stopping to pluck an ingenue here and there for their intermittent pleasure.
I tried not to notice the snigger heard as I introduced my fiancé, a man of impeccable standing. The fizz went out of them as years went by and they realized there is such a thing as a true, loving marriage.

I felt it right from the start
That sudden welcomed spark
When I saw those eyes of yours
Blue so lovely that devoured
Me, as our minds met
Thinking of what might come next.

Sunday’s Six Sentence Story Word Prompt!

Red, red, red, lays atop my head
Born with that color and brain and personality
I may have been told a few times in banality
Such an influence to be put on a child
No wonder I thought I should be wild
Why not live up to the promise
But life didn’t offer that premise
Resulting in surrounding my place
With the color red in each small space.
