Question Time from Rory

What actions do you take if you can’t sleep naturally? I listen to audiobooks

2
Can you easily recognise if you are suffering from stress, and if so, what do you do to reduce it? Are you able to see signs of stress in your friends or your family more than you? Yes and yes

3
The West holds firm concerning the war in Ukraine. However, how do you feel about it all now? Do you believe we are providing too much or too little support? I think too little. Russia has always been our enemy and now they are “in bed” with Iran

How much black-and-white honesty from your best friends do you believe your friendship with them warrants? Should friends be brutally honest with you or provide support without question? Complete and yes

Inspired by Should Friends Offer Honesty or Unconditional Support?

5
Do you think you have an addictive personality? Definitely

6
Why are so many of today’s online/television advertisements so cringey? Are you ever influenced by the comedy or corniness of them? I don’t watch tv with commercials

7
Do you ever need help responding to some comments left by readers on your blog posts, as in not knowing how or what to respond with? Why is this, and what usually throws you off? No. I’ve had some odd responses but every individual sees my posts differently

8
What five vegetables do you use the most each week or month? Onions, celery, potatoes, tomatoes, different types of beans

9
What is the most outrageous thing you have ever done? Probably going through the Eisenhower tunnel holding hands through a window to another car beside us

10
Have your blog reading habits changed since you first started to blog?
Have you ever felt frustrated from reading blog posts because they are perhaps not piquing your interest?
What have you done to prevent the boredom from biting deep if this is the case? I read and enjoy most bloggers I choose to follow

Inspired by bloggers

11
Do you find it easy to make difficult decisions, and do you have a process of elimination for making those tough decisions? Sometimes you have no choice

12
What’s the longest you have gone without a shower? Three days in hospital

13
Between the choice of a deep fried insect sandwich or a raw earthworm hamburger with no option of declining either, which would you choose? Neither

Inspired by a conversation at the Nature Reserve

14
How would your family and friends react if you started to talk to another person one day that no one else could see but you? Do you speak to yourself regularly? I doubt my family would be surprised at anything I do – (history)🙄

Inspired by the film – Just Like Heaven

15
How far can you be pushed before annoyance becomes full-blown anger and what is your anger style? Not very far😂

Winter Solace

We have entered the micro-season of “The Bear Retreats To Its Den”. This is the first micro-season of the mini-season Major Snow. All the micro-seasons within Major Snow are: The Sky is Cold, Winter Comes (Dec.07 -Dec. 11). The Bear Retreats to its Den (Dec. 12 -Dec 16). The Salmon Gather to Spawn (Dec. 17 -Dec 21). These seasons were established in 1685 by Japanese astronomer Shibuka Shunkai and are specific to Japan.

This week’s haiku invitation is to write a haiku or senryu that references hibernation or winter seclusion. Share your haiku in the comments below, or post on your own page and link back to this post. I can’t wait to read what you write!

From “Off the Grid News”: “Sheep should always have access to some form of shelter at all times during the year. However, under normal situations, sheep can handle cold weather and the elements much better than goats. In fact, they often seem to prefer being outside even in the worst winter weather as long as they have protection from drafts. I often observed my flock huddled behind a tree line, blocked from all wind with ice covering their wool in a thin film or snow piled up on their backs. The heavy wool coat with oily fleece is excellent water protection, and it keeps them well insulated naturally.”

The Sunday Whirl – Snake Oil

His raspy breath spilled out in a low hiss, typical of his snakelike appearance. He admired himself in the restroom mirror before returning to the sales floor. He felt pleased in his hidden role as the fairy of greed that had torn families apart. He was prevalent during seasons requiring gifts. A yellowing flush poured over him in an aura only he could see. A fake smile then planted as he transformed into a man, bluff of a holiday helper in sales of overpriced jewelry. So vulnerable were these humans, thinking they would be safe with expensive gifts, their lovers soothed for indiscretions.

“The Commitments”

(One of my favorite movies I’m going to watch again today.) Great music, comedy and absolutely worth a look.

“Jimmy Rabbitte (Robert Arkins), a self-proclaimed promoter, decides to organize an R&B group to fill the musical void in his hometown of Dublin, Ireland. The band comes together but ends up consisting entirely of white musicians who have little experience with the genre. Even though their raw talent and lofty aspirations gain the group notoriety, the pitfalls of fame began to tear at their newfound friendships as they prepare for their big show. Based on the novel by Roddy Doyle.” From https://consequence.net:

“You know, The Commitments? Managed by the great Jimmy Rabbitte? Hacksaw sounds and vicious vocals from lead singer Deco Cuffe? Background vocals from Imelda Quirke, Bernie McGloughlin, and Natalie Murphy? The Commitmentettes? Drums by Billy Mooney, wait no, Mickah Wallace? The band’s security guard, before he took the drums? And the great Joey “The Lips” Fagan on trumpet? Have you seriously never heard of The Commitments?”

SoCS – Anyway

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “start your post or one paragraph with the word ‘anyway.’”Bonus points if you start your post with “anyway” and regular points if you use it in a paragraph somewhere else in your post. Enjoy!

🎄🎄🎄

Anyway, there are eight days left before the big day and I haven’t wrapped a thing.🙄 Every year it seems harder to get into a Christmas spirit. I think it began in 2013 after my husband died in July and since he was the grandkids’ favorite jokester, it felt like the spirit balloon popped. Then a year later we all moved away from our small town and into Wyoming. It was culture shock for sure.

But we have survived some big obstacles since and we’re still here, putting up lights, giving small gifts and probably will forego the frosted cookie baking since one of the kids is two thousand miles away. That will be hard, because Christmas is her favorite thing all year round. We will gather and play games, eat lots and laugh more, anyway.

MLMM Saturday Mix

Welcome to the Saturday Mix, 17 December 2022! This week we are dipping our toes into the pool of OPPOSITES. Our challenge is all about “opposing forces” and the use of antithesis in our writing. You will need to use the two opposing words in your response – which can be poetry or prose. Our words this week are: – seldom and often – serious and funny.

***

Funny to see a rare corner Santa Claus

Ringing his bell for donations, hoping you will pause

Often a serious shopper will offer his bucket coins

Seems it’s seldom we think this season is supposedly one that joins

Sammiscribbles Weekend Writing Prompt

It is a “given”, the state of perpetual war, but we cannot seem to accept that fact. Our ancestors in caves were no different. Fighting and warring continue since man first walked on the planet. Environments, tasks, foods, homes, all may be completely different, and maybe it’s the survival instinct that causes turmoil. Like gangs who shouldn’t enter another gang’s turf, we fight to claim what we think is “ours”, especially what looks like ours, and acts like “ours”. Wars will always be here.
