Laugh as the train chugs on
Another year to learn new spells
The boys love of Hermione swells
Scary adventures that call for a wand
Unite them in a magical bond.

THE VET
Well there it sits, he frowned. All the equipment I need for Saturday; actually, a hunt. I know…me, on a hunt? Me, the most avid animal lover that you’ve ever met going on a hunt? But I was asked and not just by anyone.
I was asked by the dreamed love of my life, Miss Daisy. Miss Daisy lives in another area from my cottage in the village. Daisy resides in society that is in many ways, far from mine. She has afternoon tea with perfumed ladies in big floppy hats and white frilly frocks, who sip their tea with their pinky up in the air.
However, I spend most of my days taking care of horses in society’s stables. My love of animals has no bound, especially horses. They’re such big, powerful, lovable creatures. I suppose donning the gear provided by Daisy might dress me up as a proper gentleman, but the hunting? I’ll just go along for the ride, leaving that “gun” behind.

What’s something that scares you? Not much, but coming up a cancer check is always nerve wracking.
Do you care where the food you eat comes from? To what degree? I do, I buy organic when I can and anything I need with the least packaging, but unless you are a farmer you do not have much choice.
What’s something you wish you’d spent more time doing when you were younger? Not following the rules.
Let’s play autumn this or that….pumpkin spice or apple cider? Corn maze or haunted house? Horror film or Hallmark movie? Blanket or sweatshirt? Watch football or watch the World Series? Foliage-red, yellow or orange? Apple cider, neither, neither, blanket, World Series, all three, but maple reds are gorgeous.
This time last year where were you and what were you doing? Same place but witnessing a granddaughter’s wedding in English, later ceremony officially in Spanish.
October is already producing cool breezes and foggy mornings, winter will be here in Cheyenne shortly.
Happy Autumn🎃

This week’s Story Starter teaser is:
I had just finished putting the last of my books in the trunk when…the doorbell rang. It was her. Of course it was, coming by at the last minute to apologize. As if she could ever say she was sorry enough! I was done, leaving, it was over. I opened the door to receive a cardboard box hit me in the face. Falling back I heard her say, “don’t think you’re leaving your stinky gym crap with me!” She stomped back to her car. My only regret is the bloody nose she gave me.

Your challenge today is to read three poems by dead poets and respond to ONE of them in your own way. I chose:

When I’m among a blaze of lights,
With tawdry music and cigars
And women dawdling through delights,
And officers in cocktail bars,
Sometimes I think of garden nights
And elm trees nodding at the stars.
I dream of a small firelit room
With yellow candles burning straight,
And glowing pictures in the gloom,
And kindly books that hold me late.
Of things like these I choose to think
When I can never be alone:
Then someone says ‘Another drink?’
And turns my living heart to stone.

Missing home, sadness creeps. Uncertainty looms in surroundings, masking fear of what lies ahead when once again called to board a truck full of mates, traveling to another battlefield.
Bright lights and liquored drink dull thoughts of future horrors and horrors left behind.

Not your regular harvest
Ladies who don’t sit and rest
They dive for treasure
Which is in over measure
Seemingly having a blast
Removing underwater trash
They remove their finds
Rewarded in kind
By water creatures mostly unseen
That enjoy their environment now cleaned.
