OVI Poetry – Rescue

4 line stanzas, as few as one stanza and up to as many as you like. 8 syllables or less per line. Rhyming is AAAb. The second stanza would be CCCd. The third, EEEf. And so on. Meaning nothing in one stanza must rhyme with anything in the previous stanza. The fourth line does not rhyme.

“write a poem showing the beauty of your city or why you love the city you live in presently”

Houston

never thinking I would look back to love this city

first impressions—hot, humid, crowded and too “Texan”

a New England naive bride stepped out to wet blanket odorous air

attitudes I could not understand yet found interesting

mind expanding to see and hear wonderful diversity

busy, loud, exciting and new cultures to explore

thankful now for the experience I had and now sometimes miss.

***interesting to note and sad that Houston being an open minded diverse atmosphere is something that my current Wyoming city will never be

  • You choose the form, and you choose the past season, and the winter kigo words. You must use at least one kigo word in your poem.*
  • *Remember, if you write a haibun or a haiku, the kigo word is required in the haiku.

What’s your “fit” today?

According to my grandkids the word is “fit” not “outfit” so below is my selfie for today. I snap my grands every day and we usually have something fun on them. I put this on since we’re all under cold snow and staying warm as possible this week. Then there’s this from my daughter—mother of four daughters!

And who wouldn’t want to be a super cool teenage girl?😂

So be cool but stay warm☺️

Sadness overtook her again as she stepped out of the cemetery area and into the waiting taxi. She knew the deceased was only one of the new men who joined protests against racism. They were all eager and brave, ready to right wrongs with the hope to be heard. At the meetings, energy surged and many talked of what might be accomplished if they stood strong together. She maintained the positive attitude while speaking of future plans to meet at the park and conduct a peaceful gathering. She smiled, surprised but pleased to see many young people in attendance. But that smile was the last smile to come upon her face. Shots rang out and members of the group suddenly fell down to the grass.
