The Writer’s Workshop

I chose number 2, eight sentence post:

When you want to help but can’t, the feeling grates. Having resources as some people do, my question to them is, why don’t you? Besides buying a second or third home, another automobile that you rarely use, store and look at, or a bigger yacht, help someone! Give money or your time to a shelter, food bank, free clinic, buy a homeless person’s lunch, visit a children’s institution and bring them a treat. Bring a celebrity to a children’s hospital. Spread your wealth in helpful ways. Why not receive that feel good reward? You’ll make someone else feel great and they might pay it forward.

Simply Six Minutes – Opposite View

Joe was no ordinary guy—he had a great job, lots of friends and a loving family. He couldn’t be more pleased with how his daily life was going. Joe always had a smile for the office coworkers, could tell a good joke at a party and assimilated well in any sports conversations even though he never actually participated in sports, even as a boy. His early childhood revolved around a doting grandmother who solved any problem with food. Feeling sad? Have a cookie! Feeling proud of your schoolwork? Your favorite dinner served. Grandma was a loving person and tried to make Joe feel proud of himself. This idea created a confident young man who could look in the mirror and see himself as a fit, handsome man. Everyone else saw the real man, but overlooked his size in favor of his warm personality.

Simply 6 Minutes – Welcome to the Challenge: 06/25/2024

My Evening Sunset

Pink and lavender move half way to peach

Rose cloud clumps dot and spread

Bright gold streaks on robin’s egg blue background

All is slowly moving

Orange and rose turn deeper

Grey light blue coming from the left

Lavender now darkens to purple

Brilliant golden streaks turn neon orange

Majestic clouds evolve to dark gray

Light golden yellow ascends from the horizon

Rose orange drifts upward

Above it all light gray blue sky

Fading now as bright orange disappears behind oppressive dark purple clouds

Yellow peachy blossoming over mountains

Puffy dark purples loom over the sunshiny pink

It’s almost done

Dark silhouetted tree lines spiking up through fading hues

A light gold awash over all soon to be hidden in gray

Mother Nature’s drive in movie

How grateful we are to see this beauty.

Fandango’s Story Starter

This week’s Story Starter teaser is:As the sun dipped below the horizon, the carousel at the long abandoned amusement park began to spin on its own, beckoning me to step aboard. “Gee willikers!” I exclaimed, looking surprised. I was just about ready to close up my balloon dart booth and saw the carousel spinning. “Must be George is staying late tonight.” I thought and walked over to the carousel. It slowed down and I stepped up beside my favorite horse. I had loved it as a kid…Suddenly the music started up and I climbed aboard the horse I loved. “Might as well enjoy it” I thought. George never appeared and I started to feel sleepy. I held on tight, not wanting to fall off if I started dozing.

Suddenly I was startled by the sound of children, laughter, parents calling to them and I saw a bunch of people surrounding the ride. It was no longer nighttime and the crowd was smiling, cheering on their kids and held bright colored balloons swaying on strings. Cotton candy sticky fluff in some parents’ hands and a few oldsters like me looking nostalgic.

I loosened my grip a bit and noticed the hands attached to me were no longer bent and wrinkled. My body was small and dressed in bright colors. It was a sailor suit! I always wanted one as a boy cause my dad was in the Navy. I couldn’t help but enjoy this dream while it lasted, but then I heard a familiar voice calling my name. It was my mom! I waved to her, unbelieving, but wanted it so much to be true. She waved back and then it was all gone, as quickly as it had appeared, gone, and my heart sunk a little. The music and the carousel stopped. Reluctantly, I climbed off the horse, my old self was back and the dream also.

Fandango’s Story Starter #155

Claytoonz excerpt

Entire post: https://claytoonz.com/2024/06/24/beep-beep-beep-beep-yeah/

“But no matter how many times President Biden says “folks,” or tells a story about his father, or how many times he whispers to make his point, or even if he fumbles every question, it won’t change the fact that Donald Trump was recently found guilty in a court of law and still has three criminal trials facing him. It won’t change the fact that another court found Trump to be a rapist. It won’t change the fact that another court issued a fine of hundreds of millions of dollars because he’s a grifter. It won’t change the fact that Trump is a national security threat. It won’t change the fact that Donald Trump is a felon.”

It was paramount in Joe’s mind. He could not stop thinking about the speeches of this facilitator of violence. And more to come in the debate, hopefully showing proof that this candidate is unworthy. Never remorse in his constant accusations and lies, and in every rally his voice rings out loudly to his followers. It is as if he is the inventor of untruths. The crowds grow more violent, nonsensically argue about falsehoods, and then settle back into their ignorant, unworldly lives.

Here are this week’s questions:

1.  What do you miss most, if anything, about your school days? My two friends I attended all twelve grades with.

2.  Did your school have its own sports field or swimming pool? We had no pool but the sports field was across the street.

3.  What was your favourite day on the school week? I probably had no favorite, I loved school.

4.  Did you have one teacher for a variety of subjects, or separate teachers for each? One teacher for 1-8 grades and then different ones for different subjects in high school.

Gratitude: I was lucky as a child to have a loving caring teacher from 1-6 grades in a one room school house. And always, I am grateful for my family!
