Sam

Only a fool would mess with Sam, the best PI in the tri-city area. The cops knew him well, but avoided him always. Sam knew what he was doing and no matter what laws he broke doing it, the cops would find a culprit on their doorstep sooner or later. Sam didn’t actually work for the police, but they considered him an “associate”. Sam could go places they could not, at least without a warrant, and the days of rampant gangsters and crooked politicians, legal warrants were hard to come by for any legit copper.

Sam stood in the doorway til the coast was clear. He fished in his pocket for the set of skeleton keys and quietly entered the office of a Mr. Imen Innocent, a prolific dealer of toxic drugs, and retrieved the shipment invoices hidden in a large ancient urn with a secret false bottom, that sat next to Mr. Innocent’s desk. Sam’s informant who did a job for the criminal, saw the urn and reported back to Sam that it might be where the papers were hidden.

Sam softly cracked open the vase and grabbed the vault part of the false bottom. Pocketing the evidence, he backed up to the office door when he heard a low growl. Glancing to the side he saw a huge canine ready to pounce. Luckily Sam was prepared. He took the bag of hamburgers out of his coat’s inside pocket, threw them at the dog and slipped out the office door. Once again Sam solved a case, his phenomenal luck and skill allowed him to fight another day.

Circles

Life rotates, just like a circle

You’re young, you’re old, you change

You’re the boss or you’re the mother

Later become something other

Your children now take care of you

As long as family stays true

Some wander away from loving ties

Others tend to always rely

On the bond formed early on

Keep the faith, do not move on

All this learned in early life

Stay the course, and then

With cords that bind but also bend

The circle of love never ends.

I was in a hurry, like every day this summer. It just seems vacation is another word for busy! I was running to the car and my dad is already sitting in the front seat, engine running and yelled “Morgan! Why are you always the last one to get in the car? Hurry up, we’re going to be late!” I yanked open the backseat door and threw my backpack down over my feet, where it was joined by my two brothers’ packs. It was only when we arrived at the school fair I realized I only had one shoe on!

Art painting on fabric – http://bluemoonriver.com/

“Threads of feelings” woven laboriously into daily life

Bright red strings of joy in binding

Sewn sunny yellow seen in children’s laughter

Long lavender stitches of grandma’s stories

Blue cords throughout when days are melancholy

Purple passion pieces placed here and there

Orange lengths woven from sunset and sunrise

Pink yarn spotted from young women’s secrets

White threads in small bows join together this life quilt.
