Just do it is going through my mind. Yeah, all those slogans either help to motivate or claw at your ego. Ignore the heavy hitters over there lifting weights looking like Arnold Schwarzenegger when he was young. Trying to meditate for a few minutes before lifting and reaching my goal.

Fandango’s Friday Flashback

Putting My Feet in the Dirt – 4-28-19

Donning her denim’s overalls for a day outside in the garden, Mary was excited to see what Mother Nature did with the seedlings she planted last week. Working in the city, these weekend trips back to the bucolic setting of her youth were heavenly.

Last week she planted some of her favorite vegetable seedlings, grown from seeds indoors the past few weeks. Mary’s hope was that a sturdy start would help them survive during her five day absence. To Mary’s surprise, they all seemed to be doing well until she came upon one odd sight, the eggplant sprouts. They were larger than any of the other vegetables and quite peculiar in appearance. She decided the seeds must have been particularly healthy and went on gardening.

The next weekend Mary returned to find many plants had taken hold well and she was very happy until she spotted large purple blobs taking over the corn plants. The eggplants were almost frighteningly large. The vine seemed to be strangling the corn stalks. Corn plants were covered with them and their tops were looking dry, even malnourished.

Mary was shocked at these uneasy eggplant episodes and started to pull their vines away from the corn stalks.

Sadly to report, Mary’s body was found by investigating police when she had not shown up for her job in the city. “A bizarre sight” the forensics team observed as Mary seemed to have been strangled and partially consumed by vines emanating from the oversized eggplants. The coroners had never experienced a vanquish by vicious veggies before.

My Brazilian Heart

The sultry yet upbeat influence of Brazilian Bossa Nova has colored Joyce Partise’s musical world and created an ambiance that she believes influences people in many emotional ways. Whether her performances calm the soul or add romance to one’s life, she believes this style of music will live on eternally. In addition, the American Songbook is another favorite. Full of classic jazz standards, these nostalgic timepieces will live on forever. Joyce Partise takes the many influences found within these various music types and makes each rendition her own, adding her dramatic flair and zeal that resonates behind each note.

In the very small hollows of the shrine, the epitaph had faded. It seemed as if a constant rain might be dripping down causing the damage. However, as I stepped nearer, I could see where animals had been laying, crushing the grass surround. Apparently there was something that drew them to the gravesite.

As one who craves knowing the history behind epitaphs, it was heartwarming to see that even the animals could tell the importance of the person buried here.

The party ended in screams when the hostess’s body was found in the…guest bathroom underneath Scammin’ Sam, the well-to-do party guest. Sam loved women, at least their bodies, not so much their minds. He could put up with some chatty Cathy’s but there was a limit. After all, he thought, no one especially a woman, knows more than I do.

I knew I had a winner when I saw the body on the floor. I grabbed my phone. It was the hostess but also a blonde model from Sam’s tv show, the title of which I dare not write here. Let’s just say it’s on Channel X, Sam’s creation. Don’t look at me like that. I need this gig because no one’s reading the written news anymore.

Sam took a quick shot with his phone and the rest is history.

“This is the life, isn’t it Betty? I’m so happy we are finally together as man and wife.”

“I do love the beach, Harry, but aren’t you going to swim with me? Let’s get in the water!”

“Uh, you know I love the ocean, Betty, but I can’t be in the sun with just trunks on. Though I wish I could join you, I’ll just sit here in my new plaid shirt and watch.”

Betty went in the waves, playing, keeping her eye on her husband when suddenly she was run over by a small sailboat. Harry watched in surprise and fear. Neither honeymooner saw the “No Swimming” sign.

Reena’s Exploration Challenge

Amy found herself in a quandary. She read many books and received lessons from her parents at home. Amy was lucky enough to learn at a public school and was partly homeschooled.

Today was “dress up as a favorite character” day at the school. Amy decided to go as Anne Frank, a character from her favorite book. Other girls came as Cinderella, Barbie, and some Disney characters. Amy was stared at weirdly because of her old worn dress. When it was her turn to explain her costume, some kids laughed and the teacher gave her a curious look.

That evening, Amy’s parents received a call from the teacher. She said Amy’s costume and book were unacceptable and too mature for the other classmates. The next day Amy and her folks went to the principal of the school to explain or complain, which one depended on the head of the school.

Being familiar with homeschooled students and their parents, he called the teacher in and the five of them talked. The teacher was then given a list of books children may read in class and serve the more mature students as well as the average students.

That night Amy discussed it all at dinner but still had questions in her mind.

The Unicorn Challenge

Oh my, oh dear

I think…I fear

I’ve lost my cane!

Am I insane

Not to keep it somewhere near?

Will anyone help me find

My cane, its handle’s blue

Oh dear, I have no clue

Where it could be.

And then a store employee

Came over to help me

Madam, here is your cane

But I must say

It looks rather lame

I see there’s no rubber tip

Using it, you may slip.

I thanked the man, so polite

And left quickly from his sight.

Next time I shop

On a scooter I’ll hop

And not remain

Using my cane.
