I think that I shall never know
A unique heirloom tomato
Its taste is spicy, even sweet
A store sold item can’t compete
Gorgeous color variety
Favored in past societies
Rare now and very expensive
Stock’s rarely seen, not extensive

Poetics Tuesday: Comfort food
So true! Heirloom tomatoes are hard to come by.

I so appreciate your commentary on the state of tomatoes! We all deserve better than the waxy ones at the grocery store which are but a shadow of the former juiciness a tomato could be expected to provide.

I love tomatoes but trying to buy them at a grocery is a waste

Cheryl, I can attest to all of what you say. I’ve been growing various heirloom tomatoes for years. It’s magical, the return on just one seed/plant. I save tomato (and other) seeds now.

Love it, love the rhyme. Greenhouse tomatoes, even tomatoes in a bucket on the deck, are better than store tomatoes. I grew up eating them with salt.
